Ten centimeters is pretty weaksauce.  Considering that a medium upgrade for her Apophis Claw might be "bear-trap functionality" and a major upgrade "explosive launch", I'd be fine with something as mundane as "length" being several feet of chain.  It's not necessarily the size that makes the upgrade; it's how much more powerful overall the character is with it.
