To put it very simply, his ability is to detect knowingly made lies/untruths, regardless of the medium (voice, writing, text, phone, recording, etc, if he can understand the message, he can tell whether it's true or not) and to render people incapable of knowingly conveying anything untrue whenever they're interacting with him. On the downside, it renders him completely incapable of ever telling a lie himself. 

I'm wondering if that sort of power would be okay in this setting?
