I decided to go with a Celtic based nation instead of a malay based one (their are still malay based people though in Keris) similar to Ireland before the mid 1990s.
I'd suggest watching 'Charlie', if you can. Its all about Irish politics from 1980-1995 ( roughly) and revolves around our old Taoseacht, Charlie Haughey.

<Snipped quote by Kangaroo> I'd try tending towards libertarianism. That would be economically and politically distinguishable from the other three powers, and also leave Artesia highly distinct as the only non-authoritarian superpower.
I'm also considering involving a degree of isolationism in terms of military intervention, preferring to use economic and diplomatic means over direct intervention.
I've decided on 'Maraust'. I think the idea I have in mind for the Mar's recent history better fits fascism than communism. I was thinking that, with the failed communist revolution in Sturvia, our Great War was led by a combined Monarchist Sturvian and Resian (possibly also Artesian?) effort against communism, which had taken root in Maraust and was being supported abroad in Trotskyist excursions led by the newly appointed communist Mar government. It is in the aftermath of Maraust's loss that fascist ideas took hold there. When the roleplay starts, the fascist element of Maraust will have only recently taken power, and will be in the process of making severe changes.
I think Artesia would only get involved if there was a genuine threat of Maraust to the republic. They more than likely would've come into the war if the Sturvians and Resians began failing. Maintaining a balance of power and all.

Regarding ideologies: If not communism, at least anti-colonialism, though that might be self-interested anti-colonialism for a power that's late to the game.

Updated Holtland to reflect divided military leadership loyalties and to update names of things (like the Holtland Heritage Party.)

I would go for that, Nex, except your country is awfully intact for someone with a civil war and two Great Power interventions (Modern, widespread industrialization). Also, how would you have gotten nukes, anyway?

<Snipped quote by So Boerd> I was thinking they'd either be independent or, as you suggested, beholden to Resia by way of dominion status. I'm not entirely certain of which I prefer or the means by which we reached that conclusion, even if I'd already written a few paragraphs regarding some level of armed conflict (obviously not final). I was considering, hypothetically, some amount of outside interference in colonial affairs, such as enemy states' spies goading agitated locals and settlers into this push for autonomy/independence. All in all, I'd prefer a state to play a state that's on good terms with Resia, or at least making inroads towards reconciliation with them post-revolution. A big part of this, I think, is my population. I have 72 million people, of which approximately 10-15 million are Resian descended or 'old world' descended settlers. This is a relatively large amount of people, and I'd wager that agitation towards some degree of self-determination and a formative national (or at least regional) identity would not at all be unlikely.
Could always have Apartheid that the other supers are after you for. The good terms Dominion situation seems pretty solid to me.

Seuss, perhaps you could roll our current economic strengths? Maybe Depression-recession-slow growth-robust growth-rapid growth? (I would have slow growth repeat twice, but that's just me)

Third Positionism. That will result in their being opposed to imperialism on ethnopluralist grounds. I was also thinking of Maraust's history having a similarity to India: a sprinkling of various regional kingdoms, gradually becoming dominated directly or indirectly by foreign powers. A revolution brings communism to Maraust, beheading the former kings and displacing the former colonists, and Maraust begins to pour support on to communist movements in neighbouring states, such as Sturvia. This demands intervention, and so begins the Great War.

The interventions weren't necessarily all into Maraust itself, and the conclusion of the Great War did not necessarily fully destroy the country. The same explanation for nuclear weapons can be put forth to explain Maraust's industrial strength; Maraust has simply done very well since the war's inconclusive end. The Soviets had developed nuclear weapons by 1949, without American assistance, and it's 1949 at the roleplay's start.

Very well. May I have a half Gibraltar, half Hong Kong concession in your land, Nex? I can't imagine that India equivalent just industrialized itself by its bootstraps, so a major foreign financial center might make some sense. Also, the colony hunt continues, the rest of y'all.

I want the treaty that ended the Great War to have been as awkward and inconclusive as possible. An imperial city-state at Maraust's doorstep, one which they failed to liberate, would be helpful in that regard. So, sure. I was also thinking of having had the Maraust independence/communism movement begin in a former of your colonies, in a Maraust region I have written up to be called 'Tsharrsta'. The industrialization efforts would have began many years before the Great War started, under the communist regime. Colonial India -Communist Revolution-> Leninist Russia -WWII analogue-> Lovechild of Peronist Argentina and Imperial Japan.

I'm a colony of Sini already. Instead I have an idea of perhaps Resia being a center of the Kerisian diaspora due to its economy. Kerisians immigrated to Resia to find better opportunities before the Great and also became a center of the Kerisian Independece Movement?

I sort of want the superpowers situated and then we'll figure out where the others go. I will step in if the process gets unruly, but if you guys can work it out on your own, I'll be happy to go along with it.

Also, I like this idea. I'll work up a chart. It'll be a starting point to work with. (And yes, options are repeated a few times in the rolls at various points. @Elendra devised the rolling methodology, I'm just following in his footsteps on this.)
