Reincarnate - Season 23 Box set Now Available!
The year is 1991, and it Smells Like Teen Spirit and flannel in here. Oh look, a new show is coming out next year!
In 1992, a television show about a group of people who discover that they are reincarnated versions of mythical creatures airs on your local schlock television network and gains a sudden and vibrant response. The plots and characters are a little cheesy, but the special effects are amazing! The critics could have sworn that goblin-shaped puppet was actually real! Welcome to your very own 20+ year long television show! Characters will be killed off and replaced, the villains will eventually be your love interests or reluctant allies, and one of you will probably get your own spin-off show and receive lukewarm reviews. Oh wait. All of that already happened? It's 2015 and the show has yet to be cancelled. All of the original characters - the ones that didn't die or ascend or go into life-long comas - have grown up. They have kids who are young adults and even some of those young adults are already having kids! How scandalous! The plots are still just as dramatic as ever, but the inclusion of hip lingo and all sorts of cool techno gadgets are making sure the show always keeps up with the times. There's even one guy who is a nerdy computer hacker! Tina from Minnesota writes in that he's her favorite character, and she has, like, 20 slashfics written about him. Whatever that means... You will be playing the characters in this show. Not the actors, the characters. You have no idea that you're in a television show, and the very idea is preposterous to you. So what if a new bad guy shows up every other year? So what if you've already died like, five times? So what if that guy suddenly changes appearance, voice, and habits, he was reincarnated! Just ignore the plot holes in your own life and live the way you are suddenly and inexplicably compelled to! This concept isn't one I've had buzzing around in my head for very long, so it's not all-inclusive or especially well thought-out at the moment. That said, this is an interest check before anything else. I'll require the help of the players to establish the 20+ year long character relationships and history of the show. You'll also need to feel comfortable with all varieties of plot holes and cheap excuses for things. This is a roleplay using TV drama logic. There will be a lot of opportunities for players to take on multiple characters, or at least the occasional one-off characters, and it won't be odd for characters to die or change allegiances and personalities. If you grew up watching shows like this then you should know what I mean. I would post a CS skeleton or something like that, but right now I just want to see who - if anyone - is interested and what KIND of character they would be looking to play. Like I said, almost everyone will have SOME relation to another character. They could be a son, daughter, mother, father, best friend, niece, nephew, rival, archenemy, etc... And I want everyone to be on the same page when they start putting these bonds together. New characters (characters new to the show) will be kept to a minimum, and they won't stay on long unless they're popular (ie. They become important to the story or everyone really likes them). They will most likely be villains or plot devices at first, and if nobody wants to play them I as the GM will happily oblige. For the time being just let me know if you are interested. If I think there are enough people available I'll create an official OOC and we can post more comfortably about characters and plot lines there. If anybody wants to ask questions or discuss things relevant to the outline in this thread I don't have a problem with it, but please keep it to a mild roar so that things don't get too spammed. Thank you, and Welcome!

Questions, questions, questions... 1. What's the general tone of the show? I get that it's cheesy, but are we going for, like, a more soap opera-ish deal where it's one big overarching story that's often meant to be super serious, or more episodic and/or lighthearted in nature, a la Supernatural, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, so on and so forth? On a similar note... 2. What's the general premise of the show? We're all reincarnated mythical creatures, which is groovy, and there's good guys and bad guys involved, which I can totes dig, but what is the show itself actually about? Is there some overarching concept like, say, the Masquerade that needs to be enforced by the protagonists/deuteragonists?

Hmm. These are both very good questions. Firstly, I'll start by saying that I'm not going to claim supremacy on the goings on of the show, but as the GM I'll probably be driving things in whatever direction I think will make for the most enjoyable game. 1. As for the tone of the show, I think the best comparison (as far as what I was imagining) would be General Hospital meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Supernatural is a bit too "monster of the day" (I've only seen the first season so I'm not sure if it changes) with an overarching story. I'm think that a more serial style, progressive plot that keeps to a similar formula would be more conducive to roleplaying. 2. As for the plot. Again, just my original concept (feel free to suggest alterations or improvements) is that the character reincarnate as mythical creatures. They're perfectly human in appearance, but they maintain temperament and powers akin to the creature they reincarnated from. By this point in the show the characters have probably already discovered why they reincarnated and for what purpose (probably gods or demons or some such nonsense masquerading as lawyers or big businessmen), overturned the machinations of whoever the mastermind behind the reincarnation is, and settled into a more easy lifestyle. Now they just keep fighting off the ongoing menace of the god's reincarnated twin cousin while he tries to manipulate them into destroying all the regular humans (again, this is all just off the top of my head). I would imagine that the main characters have enacted their own uneasy Masquerade style system that they enforce and ignore as they please, depending on the maguffin of the arc.

This sounds like fun. I haven't seen an RP that almost makes fun of itself yet, so this may be a refreshing and entertaining experience. Count me in.
