Devika found herself having to sit, partway through Nick's story. She was stunned, that a parent could do something so horrific to his own flesh and blood. By the time Nick was done recounting the morning's events, she was nearly crying. It was taking all of her will and training not to do so, because if she cried, everyone else within a ten foot radius would too. Taking slow, deep breaths to keep herself level, she reached out and touched Nick's face. "Don't do that, Nick. Don't you dare. That wasn't your fault, you know. He partially powers up and as thick, white tendrils start to cover his arms, tentacles shoot out to harmlessly restrain Kijani's limbs. "Shhh, calm down Princess. Everything's gonna be just fine. Your boyfriend is still here, and I'm here to help you recover."
John's restraint would have been a good plan for almost anyone else. Unfortunately for him, Kijani, and the rest of the room, being restrained threw Kijani into a state of survival mode. Her eyes, which were glazed and not-quite in reality, fixed on John. All the paper that was chaotically flying around the room turned course and went straight for John. Sheets drove into his skin, razor-sharp and thin, shredding at his tentacles. Kijani was screaming with incoherent rage, kicking, fighting, and crying. In her mind, she was in the lab, eleven years old and desperate to not get tied down again, not get hurt again.
