[*] A brief war, lasting seven days, between a united Earth and the alien invaders resulted in over a third of the planet being scorched. [*] The aliens, despite being on the cusp of total victory and having sustained few losses, suddenly and inexplicably withdrew. They have not been seen since. [*] Over three billion people were massacred by the deadly orbital bombardments from the alien ships. Nations are in tatters, but some have started to redevelop themselves. All the while, the threat of a second invasion looms over Earth. [*] The RP starts 15 years after the invasion. Post-invasion Earth has taken on a very different appearance to its pre-invasion self, both geographically and politically. [*] The players take the helm of these nations, that are still reeling from the almost irreparable destruction they suffered. It is up to them to redefine the world’s political borders, to rearm their non-existent militaries and most importantly – prepare for round 2. [*] Technology level is modern, but with a supercharged level of research placed into space flight. By the time the balls of plasma had finished falling, I was a man.” – Anoymous Invasion Survivor, written in the United States. On the 16th of March, 2021, the established order of the world and everything we knew about space and science changed forever. Despite our arrogance in the fields of science, and despite our radars and telescopes, we knew nothing of the armada that had crawled its way towards Earth over the course of years. Man was humbled that day, and he has not regained his confidence since – and nor should he. 24 orbital anomalies were detected, not by our advanced radar systems, but by the naked eye, as the clock struck 23:00. What happened next, was total slaughter, as cities across the globe were simply evaporated by weapons our scientists had never thought possible. The United States, Russia and China were the first to act – and though their efforts were ultimately flawed, perhaps it was their determination to defend themselves that drove the invaders off? Or… perhaps more scary the thought, that the invaders were simply toying with us. Seeing what we could do. If this is the case, then they don’t have much to fear. The skies were lit for seven days, as thermonuclear barrages launched from Earth, contested the airspace with gigantic bulbs of plasma fired from the 24 enormous hulks of alien alloys. Our weapons however, were largely ineffective. Many of the missiles were disarmed remotely, most likely interfered with by the alien fleet’s defence systems. However, some made it through the net, and we did have our victories. Three of the hulks were damaged, and one of them crashed into the Atlantic Ocean. However, by this time we had lost the majority of China, the United States, Europe and Russia to total destruction. Had the aliens not withdrawn, the war would have lasted perhaps a few hours longer than it did, before our only options would have been to simply stand there and die. As fate would have it, they withdrew. We don’t know why. We don’t know if they’ll be back. What we do know is, if they do return, we might not be able to turn them aside again. Fifteen years since the invasion, and our progress has been shamelessly slow. Nations have struggled to rebuild, no thanks in any small part to the looming threat of a second invasion. Civil wars are frequent, but so too are wars between states. Politics has changed drastically, along with military philosophy. Our nuclear stocks are low, but are being replenished. Our space programs are plenty, and receive more funding than is perhaps necessary. Mankind is adapting to this new volatile threat – but how long does he have? How long before he either kills himself in an hour of nuclear fire, or before he is simply pushed from the Earth by the aliens? There may be hope. A united Earth, focussed in one direction may yet have the strength to prevail… but that is neither here nor there. First, the nations of Earth must rebuild, and then perhaps they can look to seriously contending with a power that may have only flashed the tip of its ice burg.

Out of Character Info:

Assume control of a nation, either an existing state from today’s world, or a new one that has emerged in the chaos. Industries are replenishing, resources are once more being accessed, and global trade is starting anew. However, with the current state of things, there is no longer a “super power”. No nation seems strong enough to lay claim over anything, though that is not to say that some states aren't weaker than others… and it certainly doesn’t nations from trying to establish themselves as the leader in a New World Order. Military funding is starting to look more towards the skies, than the ground, but land warfare is still very much a thing. New alliances have been made, and old ones broken. Wars over resources and territory are frequent, and the threat of nuclear exchanges is a feature of daily events. Armed space-shuttles are now a thing, and some nations are looking to establish permanent orbital fleets... others are even looking to the Moon as a potential military and domestic investment. The U.N no longer exists, although there is clamour for its reintroduction. Perhaps a strong politician, skilled in diplomacy, could convince the entrenched war mongers and the stubborn idealists into agreeing to a new global institution? The world is largely untouched environmentally from the invasion - the thermal-nuclear warheads that did hit their targets, did so in the Earth's orbit. Whilst this has had some impact on the ozone, and has led to spikes in radiation over some areas of the planet, generally speaking everything is as it is now. The plasma barrages from the alien fleet were largely aimed at centres of population, and military bases. What remains of their targets is simply horribly scarred wastelands, impregnated with ruins from a better time. Some of these areas have been built over, others have been left.

Nation Sheet:

Nation Location Refer to map. Nation Flag Nation Name Nation History 2021-2036 Nation Government Type Nation Leader Profile A brief bio and description of your leader. Government Cabinet The position names, and names of persons occupying these positions.
