-Realm name: United Tribes of Untregg -Flag/Banner: None. NATIONAL -Capital: Untreggstead -Government Type: Mageocracy/Autocracy (Strongest Mage rules. Currently Untregg the Younger.) -Currency: barter economy. Goat hide used in cases of service trade. -Population: about 400,000. No official census ever taken. -Realm Size: the whole of the island is considered Untregg's property. -Unique Trait #1: The Einherjar: Using the collective forces of their mage leaders, the honored dead of the Northfolk can be raised in times of crisis. This is used as both a symbolic method of raising troop morale, fighting along side their fallen heroes, and as a practical way to boost military numbers. -Unique Trait #2: -Unique Flaw #1: Friendship of the Northfolk: The Northfolk are notorious for their lack of trust in each other. Constant betrayals cause problems in the bureacracy of their tribal nation. -Unique Flaw #2 (Created by me, mostly to reduce min-maxing) GEOGRAPHICAL -World-Realm Map: (Fill in desired blocks on world map) - Geographical Trait: (created by me in consultation w/ you. Applies to nations adjacent to the Plague Lands.) - Geographical Flaw: (created by me. Only applies to nations not adjacent to the Plague Lands. Generally speaking to nations beyond the green geographical zone in the center.) - Internal-Realm Map: (A zoomed in map of your controlled blocks and major cities/castles/locations within it. PLEASE NOTE: My map key zones are more like 'general guidelines' than a straitjacket. There are many different types of 'temperate' or 'desert' landscapes, for example, so please build on the general outline I gave w/ specifics. Make your region your own.) -Major Cities: Untreggstead Oldenhold Burreksgard Southhead Port -Major Castles: The Heart Oldenkeep Fort Burrek -Buildings of Interest: The Southhead Port is actually neither a castle, nor a town, but rather a very large market built at the southernmost point of the island. It exists to allow trade between the "Visitors" (Drathan Slavers) and those who wish to give them tribute. -Geographic Features of Interest: The Heart, the center of Untreggstead, is built atop the "bones of the colossus", an unusual rock formation shaped vaguely like a human ribcage. RACIAL -Majority Race: Northfolk -Majority Race Appearance: The Northfolk are a remnant of a time long ago, when many breeds of man walked the earth. Their bodies are short, stocky, and covered in thick hair, almost furlike. They are not a beastly race, but they are not quite human either. Their heads appear almost flattened, with jaws that protrude. To most humans, a Northfolk male would appear to be heavily deformed, likely mistaken for an inbred freak. However, their strange appearances are simply that: They are not unhealthy nor unintelligent. -Majority Race Characteristics: The Northfolk are not precisely warlike, but they are far from peaceful. Rather, their temperament came from a time when trust was a coin flip that meant either survival or death, and so it is that xenophobia is practically hard-wired into them. As well, their biology is similarly suited for dealing with strange information and threats: Their noses are upturned, with a very acute sense of smell particularly capable of smelling blood. -Minority Races: None. RELIGION & MAGIC -State Religion: The Old Ways (Referred to by the Northfolk as The Colossi) -Religious Information: The Northfolk worship practices come from the rock formation around The Heart, referred to as the Bones of the Colossus. Their belief is that the strange shape of the rocks comes from the corpse of one of the great beings that helped to shape the world and all within it. It is commonly held that the Colossi gave their lives to transcend mortal bodies and inhabit all nature, and as such, the Northfolk have adopted many druidic tendencies. -Religion Demographics: Every Northfolkman is a worshiper of The Colossi. -Holy Relics In Possession: The Hand (A boulder in the shape of a six-fingered hand, believed to be the petrified hand of one of the Colossi) -Holy Sites Under Control: The Bones of the Colossus. -Magical Schools and Curriculum: Magic is not commonplace per-se, but many Northfolk practice shamanistic rituals and divination. Some, such as Untregg the Younger, practice a form of pyromancy, manipulating the flames of hearthfires and torch sconces to use for combat purposes. These magics are almost entirely ceremonial, with little battlefield application. MILITARY -Total Military Size: Approximately 12500 soldiers total. -Military Details The armies that serve under Untregg are not well trained or organized. Rather, their skill and danger comes from their natural ferocity and willingness to fight. They are honed by hunting, primarily with axes and spears, and many have taken the title of "Berserker" as their "rank". The only official officers of the military are the "Magechiefs", those few that display the powers of pyromancy are given command of a contigency of soldiers (though these contingencies are ill-defined and fluctuate based on the location and availability of soldiers in general). NATIONAL DRAMATIS PERSONAE -Head of State/Monarch: Untregg the Younger, High Chief of The United Tribes of Untregg. His grandfather, Untregg the First, was the one to unite the Northfolk under his banner, or lack thereof, and form a semblance of a government. Though officially, any mage can challenge the High Chief for the right to rule, none have done so since Untregg the First. -Ruling Dynasty: The Sons of the First -Religious Head: Burrek the Seer, Eldest of Men. A serving hand to Untregg the First, Burrek the Seer was a wise, if extremely eccentric, mystic and devout servant of The Colossi. He was granted the dilapidated castle known now as Fort Burrek to perform his rituals in their service. CULTURAL -History: The Northfolk have a long and storied history, though most of has been forgotten and replaced with tales of grandeur. Up until about two hundred years ago, the very idea of the Northfolk living in a united "Nation" of any kind seemed almost laughable, their ways tribal and barbaric. However, the coming of Untregg the First changed all of that by building first a band of loyal followers, and soon an aggregate army of loyal Northfolk to help him "civilize" his homeland. Since then, the dynasty of The First has been revered and treated like kings. Untregg the Elder, son of Untregg the First, managed to complete his father's dream of an entirely unified Northfolk, and constructed his keep on the Bones of the Colossus. Many of his people have since congregated there, forming the town of Untreggstead. -List of Historical Grievances: None in particular. The Northfolk have heard through rumors of what few traders and merchants they have overseas of this "Dream Plague", but most dismiss it as mere legends from a far off land. -Relations: Their closest neighbors are the Greys of Uudhin. The smoke and smell of death, however, have taught the Tribes to stay far, far away. They have a very unique relationship with the Drathan Union. They do not fully understand that their southern neighbors are "people", and view them as messengers of the Colossi (which the Drathan are very willing to exploit to their advantage), trading tribesmen as "sacrifices" who are then pressed into slavery. -Cultural Notes: In smaller tribal villages, petty chiefs are often dethroned by their advisors. It is commonplace for the Northfolk's enemies and friends to be one and the same.
