Hi!!! I have a character sheet written up! It's a boy, for once, and a younger-brother type character too. What do you think?
Name: Sam Shao Age: 14 Sex: Male Appearance: Sam is small for his age, and considering that he’s only fourteen, that’s really saying a lot. He’s frequently mistaken for a ten or twelve year old, something that irritates him to no end, but his mother assures him that he’s just a late bloomer. His physical size and lack of much muscle make him a fairly pathetic martial artist, much to his own annoyance. He’s often described as “cute”, and middle-aged woman who meet him often feel the urge to ruffle his hair. He tends to inspire some rather protective maternal (and paternal!) instincts in people older than him. Sam has brown eyes and straight black hair that he keeps fairly neat. He usually wears long, light-weight cargo pants with lots of pockets, along with a red jacket and a t-shirt. His most prized possession is the necklace he received from his mother, which has a jade pendant in the shape of the Shao family crest, a Ninetails curled around a stylised flame. He keeps this necklace tucked into his shirt, and never takes it off for fear of losing it. According to his mother, the pendant will bring him good luck and keep him safe on his journey. Personality: Sam is a polite and friendly boy who gets along well with most people. He idolizes his mother and his older brother, Nate, who started his Pokemon journey two years ago. Sam has a bit of a complex about his physical weakness, and is desperate to prove himself to his parents and his brother as a capable trainer and warrior. He loves Pokemon, and is thrilled to be starting his own Pokemon journey. In battle, Sam tends to try to play to his Pokemon’s strengths. He dislikes putting his Pokemon at risk, and tries to execute tactics as effectively as possible. Sometimes, he has difficulty with coming up with more advanced battle plans, which is unsurprising given his youth. He’s still growing and learning as a trainer, but he does his best to apply himself to everything he does. Profession: Sam is a warrior and a trainer. Talents: - Sam, like most of Sengun’s warriors, can talk to and understand some species of Pokemon. His specialties are fire and water types. - Sam has training in basic martial arts, but because of his small size and physical weakness, he isn’t very good at it. While he could probably beat an attacker with no martial arts training in a fight, if he was facing off against a fellow warrior? Forget about it. There’s no way that Sam could win based on brute strength alone. - Sam’s warrior skill is Detox Cure, which he chose because of his deep-seated phobia of poison-type Pokemon. - Sam is a surprisingly good cook. His ponigiri are said to taste amazing, and he is well versed in cooking a variety of other recipes. His favorite thing to cook (and eat) is curry rice. Starter Pokémon: Sam’s father, a Sinnohan trainer who is currently traveling the world, has sent him a male Mudkip from the Hoenn region to be his starter. Its moves are Tackle, Growl and Water Gun, and it has the ability Torrent. He’s called Ilex Laboratories to let them know that he won’t need a starter, but will be coming by to pick up a Pokedex. Inventory: - 10 Pokeballs - 10 Potions - 5 Burn Heals - 5 Paralyze Heals - 10 Antidotes, because he really hates poison-types - 5 Super Potions - 7 full sets of clothing, packed by his mother - 1 ponigiri kit - 1 bottle of disinfectant and a roll of bandages - His wallet, which contains P$300, and a debit card that has P$1700 on it. - A red and white PokéLink, with his name etched neatly onto the back Hometown: Yolcana City, Yolcana, Sengun Biography: Sam’s father is a trainer from Sinnoh who battled competitively for many years, while his mother is a Yolcanan warrior. He grew up in a cramped apartment in Yolcana’s capital city with his mother and his older brother, Nate, who is four years older than him. His father, while no longer a competitive battler, is currently traveling the world and doesn’t come home much, so Sam and Nate were raised almost entirely by their mother. Since their childhood, both Sam and Nate trained to become warriors under their mother and Master Huo at the dojo. However, while Nate excelled in his martial arts training, Sam showed no aptitude for it, to the point that his father suggested that Sam become a trainer instead of a warrior. Sam, however, would not be swayed. He had always looked up to his mother, after all, and practically idolized his older brother. Although he much preferred studying about tactics and Sengun’s history, martial arts were an essential component of a young warrior’s education, so he began to practice his skills in earnest. He got through his lessons at the Flaming Paw dojo through sheer determination, and, when Nate left home at the age of sixteen to begin his journey, quickly became enraptured with the idea of his own Pokemon journey. Despite his pleading, his parents refused to let him leave home until he discovered his Pokemon specialty, so Sam threw himself into discovering what Pokemon he had an affinity with. Eventually, a few weeks from his birthday, he learned that his specialties were fire and, strangely enough, water. While it was fairly common for Yolcanan natives to have affinities for fire Pokemon, Sam’s affinity for water Pokemon was both surprising and uncommon. Still, the peculiarity of his specialties were pretty much ignored by Sam, who was elated at the fact that he would finally be able to start his own Pokemon journey. His mother, although somewhat concerned about his youth, reluctantly agreed, and his father, who was travelling in Hoenn at the time, obligingly sent him a young Mudkip as a leaving present. Notes: - Sam has a crippling phobia of poison-type Pokemon that stems from an incident during his childhood where he and Nate were attacked by a flock of Zubat while exploring the volcano at night. Both boys were badly poisoned, and ended up having to be hospitalized for a few days. To this day, Sam cannot stand poison-types, and cannot be within a one meter radius of them.
