That would delay the problem, but probably won't fix it without requiring GM fiat to ensure any future encounters aren't either miserable slogfests or over in a single barrage. Two separate but equally important adventures would probably do well to ensure both bunches of players get equal representation.

Of course, if [@Protagonist] doesn't want to GM two campaigns at once, he can choose to have us all start next to one another and try and go from there, or possibly hire on a co-GM to GM the second bunch's campaign while he manages the first bunch's campaign.
