Brief Bio: The son of old Native American Medicine Man. Though young Roy was very adapt with the bow. The reserve that what was left of the tribe lived on was small so Roy mostly played with the few other kids his age and used archery for sport. His skill with a bow impressed many. He was frequently brought out by the Reserve's management to show off for Tourists. Not something Roy enjoyed but he didn't have much choice in the matter. A few months after his 6th birthday saw much of the reserve burnt in a sudden fire. Roy survived. But his father, already terminally ill (at least so he was told) did not make it out. With much of the reserve destroyed, the children were taken into foster homes. Roy meanwhile was adopted by a circus. Where Roy basically did his "perform for the nice people" routine every day. The night before a performance in Star City, he discovered the star of the show Leapo the Clown, was in fact part of a criminal operation and that the ringmaster allowed his circus to be his cover. They intended to rob the crowd, which included Star City’s rich and famous, blind during the show. What they couldn't have known was Oliver Queen was there with his mother. In the time it took to slip out and change identities Roy stood up. Having never fired an arrow at a living being before he pinned Leapo's men to the stands by their sleeves. Leapo himself was a masterful acrobat and he could dodge anything. Even proving a match for Green Arrow when he appeared on the scene, even being a much slower shot. Roy picked up one of Green Arrow’s own boxing glove arrows and knocked Leapo out cold with it. Impressed with the kid’s skill. And because his “guardian” had now been arrested, Oliver took the boy in. And for the first time in years Roy was really happy. It took a few months living with the Queens for Roy to learn of Oliver’s double life. After which Oliver agreed to train him, impressed with the boy’s natural gift for firing so quickly earned him the name Speedy. Finally when he was 14, Oliver gave him his own superhero costume. And allowed him to aid him in fighting crime in Star City. Notes: During his time at the circus, his happiest moment was when The Flying Graysons did a guest performance. He remembers it fondly as he was allowed to play with The Grayson’s son Dick. Though it was long ago for Nightwing, Roy was able to recognize Nightwing’s acrobatics with the Flying Grayons routine. Green Arrow’s girlfriend Black Canary saw to train him in martial arts to make sure he knew how to defend himself and not rely upon weaponry. It was Roy's decision to cut and dye his hair. Feeling he was treated differently because of who he was. Oliver and his elderly mother treated him no differently. But Roy become much more confident and felt he fit in more since dying his hair.
