Basic Information Name: Lucy Diane Parker Nickname/Alias/Etc: Skater girl, Speedy, Lu, Parker Gender: Female Age: 19 Height: 5’8” Weight: 135 lbs. Type: New Student Appearance Hair Color: Brown Eye Color: Green Ethnicity: Canadian Physical Appearance: Lucy’s in fairly good psychical condition. She skateboards and spends a fair amount of time moving around the city. Her skin is smooth and relatively tan. Her figure doesn’t exactly stand out but it’s well defined. She’s overall pretty average. Her hair is long and cocoa colored. Her eyes are a startling green but this isn’t exactly seen often because when her power is in full blown use her eyes turn a brilliant shade of violet. Since her powers are in a constant state of active at one level or another her eye color transitions between green and purple depending on the level to which her power is acting up. Sometime both colors are present at once without mixing. Attire: Lucy always wears her father’s old military jacket as well as some sort of dark colored shirt. She’s rather ashamed of the way her eyes constantly change colors so she wears aviator glasses to cover them. She usually wears either jeans, or black legging with short shorts. Her skateboard is always on hand and she has an iPod with noise cancelling headphones on her head at all times. She has diamond studded earrings. Lucy has both red and black Converse that she swaps between depending on her mood on any given day. She also has leather fingerless gloves that are padded so she can do tricks on her skateboard but she also uses them to hide a number of white scars on her hands. Personality Innate & Outward Personality: Lucy is a bit of an adrenaline junkie. She likes to do things that make her feel alive. Contrary to what most people tend to think this isn't usually about her being the center of attention though she’s not above showing off. Lucy does these sort of stunts to remind herself that she’s free to go where she wants and do what feels right. What happened to her mother left Lucy with a fear that she would eventually follow in her footsteps and an even deeper fear of being trapped somewhere for the rest of her life. It’s not like she’s scared of small spaces or anything but lock her on a balcony and she’ll sooner scale the wall down to the ground than stay stuck there. When Lucy’s in a good mood she actually likes the company of others. This is mainly because her emotions have a huge effect on the activity of her powers, when she’s happy they drop to almost unnoticeable, at times like these she likes basking in the company of others were conversations is enough to drown out the noise. When someone’s upset Lucy looks at whatever the problem is as a logical problem rather than an emotional one so a lot of the time her friends don’t consider her a very good person to talk to when there upset however despite not being very good with advice Lucy is good at listening and most of the friends go to her simply for a shoulder to cry on. At heart Lucy regards herself as a good person. Her code about what makes her good though is entirely her own and more than likely others would not share her view about it The basis of it says that as long as no one gets hurt it doesn't matter what she does. She’ll stick up for someone getting bullied but she doesn't have much of a problem breaking into somewhere she’s not supposed to be or pocketing a couple of items from a shop. She’ll steal from people too as long as she can be sure it won’t affect them that much. Lucy wouldn't have a problem stealing a phone from a rich girl but she wouldn't steal a purse from an old lady. As long as it’s just her that Lucy’s endangering she has no problem crossing the line. When Lucy is with people she doesn't know as well she tries to be funny and interesting though a lot of the time it’s at someone else’s expense. Not that she’d mean or anything grinding the other kids into the ground but she’d not afraid to poke fun at some people’s quirks. When she’s with her own friends however, the ones that have known her for a long time Lucy prefers to listen to their conversations rather than creating her own. When someone’s upset her Lucy usually responds with verbal abuse and sarcasm rather than getting physical. Lucy has a serious problem with authority and isn't afraid to say or do things to make them look silly and likely land her a detention. Lucy likes to be the most interesting one in the group and because of this often pulls stunts to impress the people she’s with. Hobbies/Interests: Skills/Talents: Lucy is skilled on the skateboard, her brother often taking her down to the skate park to show her how to ride. Lucy is fairly strong. She’d often go hiking with her cousin’s or her family and there was usually some rock climbing involved depending on where they went. Lucy is a fantastic swimmer. Growing up near the Ocean it was hard not to be. Her father often said she was born part fish. Though she doesn’t do it very often Lucy has a beautiful singing voice. When Uncle James comes by the house the whole family would gather for music night. James played the guitar. Jackson was on the flute, Beth played the violin and everybody else sang, folks songs mostly. Prized Possession: IPod & Headphones - Lucy never lets her iPod or her headphones out of her sight. Wedding Band - Lucy carries her mother’s wedding band on a chain. Army Jacket - Lucy always has her father’s army jacket on hand even if she’d not always wearing it. Quotes: “I don’t have a problem with people… just what’s in their heads.” “If you want to beat me in a swimming race you better learn to walk on water.” “The secret to shoplifting is to draw attention to yourself, nobody looks at the girl chatting loudly with her friends.” History/Bio: Lucy grew up in Vancouver BC in a house overlooking the ocean. Telepathy has been a part of her family’s history. In everyone generation of the females receives it. A good number of their relatives look on it as a curse as it was with Lucy’s mother. Diane’s telepathic ability was unimaginably powerful, it had an enormous range and a vast intake. Because of this Lucy’s mother couldn't control whose thoughts she heard, when she heard them or what they were about. Some people she could hear for miles away. A few she was so in tune with that she assimilated there entire life’s story. All that information was too much for her mind to hand. Diane eventually broke, she would shout about things that either weren't happening or were going on at some distant where she couldn't possibly intervene. Even so Diane’s wife Jason couldn't bear to send her to some institution. As a child Lucy always enjoyed spending time with her brother who was three years older. As can be expected this didn't exactly go over well with Jackson a lot of the time. At age eleven he thought he was too cool to have his little eight year old sister hanging out with him. This only got worse as they got older. Jackson was the type of brother that always controlled what they watched on television, when they went to the store he got to choose the snacks they were eating. He’d snub Lucy a lot. If he was going to hang out with some friends and absolutely could not get rid of her then Jackson would drive her halfway, stop at some fast food place and tell her to go in and get them something before peeling out of the place once she’d gotten out of the car. In all the ways that counted though he was a good older brother. Sure he was a douche to her sometimes but when Diane was having one of her fits Jackson always protected Lucy. If she needed to come home early from a sleep over he was there to pick her up. If she awoke crying from a nightmare Jackson would come into her room, sit next to her on her bed and stroke her hair till she drifted off to sleep. When Jackson wanted Lucy around, they did some of the coolest things together. Living in Vancouver there were a large number of natural forests and cave formations if you drove an hour or two out of the city. Sometimes they’d spend a couple of day’s mountain climbing, or hiking up to a tall cliff and building the biggest bonfire imaginable. These things of course happened later in their lives, after Diane got institutionalized. Despite what the rest of the family said needed to be done Daniel wouldn't have Diane committed, not until something forced his hand. It was a normal day. Diane was mercifully quite, she was gardening, pruning her flower bushes. Lucy was drawing on the sidewalk nearby. With Diane quite Daniel left the two of them alone in the front yard when he went to check on Jackson inside the house. That was when Diane had one of her fits. She brandished the shears threateningly at the bushes before she started to tear at them wildly as though they were the heads of snakes, she was yelling things like “Don’t say that about my family.” As she chopped. This sudden change in the atmosphere scared Lucy who at seven years was not quite old to understand that her mother was insane. Lucy ran up to Diane tugging on her pant leg. “Mommy what’s wrong?” she asked frightened, looking to her mother for comfort. Diane turned on Lucy with fire in her eyes. She started to yell. “Just like me, always like me, doesn't see it, don’t hear them yet but they’ll come for you. They always come.” At this point Lucy realized that her mother was truly the one she should be scared of. She started to back away her hands out to protect herself. That was when Diane struck. She slashed the shears across Lucy’s palms leaving wounds that bled freely as she muttered “save her the suffering, won’t go through this like I did.” Lucy fell to the sidewalk, screaming. Then attracted by his daughter’s screams Daniel came out of the house to witness the grisly sight. Daniel called the police and managed to restrain Diane till they arrived. Not long after that Daniel was forced to have Diane committed to a mental institution. Daniel, Jackson, and Lucy visit her every Friday after school. These visits Lucy dreads. Her brother tried to reassure her that it’ll be okay but every time Lucy’s comes out of the hospital wishing she’d never come. Lucy never had many real friends. Being the freaks whose mother cut her up didn't exactly do much for her reputation. Lucy started doing daring, usually foolish and sometime delinquent acts to get people’s attention. Things like scaling the school to retrieve a ball some kids lost on the roof. Doing more and more dangerous stunts on her skateboard. Making impudent comments at the teachers expense when called or often enough for a couple of girls that Lucy calls friend shoplifting. Lucy’s two real friends were named Maggie and Alice. There’s a convenience store not from both their houses and after Lucy showing off to them by shoplifting they’d send her down there every once in a while for what they called snack runs. Usually it was two chocolate bars each and a pop. They were more than appreciate of the candy they liked to be a good distance from Lucy when she was doing the actual stealing. Other than occasionally getting Lucy to “acquire” items for them Maggie and Alice are actually decent friends. They stick by Lucy when she needs it and usually they get together for movie night on Saturdays. Both girls are very compassionate about Lucy’s mom. Both of them know about her power but given the level of discomfort it causes her the number of times they've asked to use it have been few and far between, though it happens on occasion. When Lucy hit puberty she started hearing voices. Slow at first and then full on. In public places it was difficult to tell the difference between them, it all blurred into white noise. Sometimes it was completely unbearable. Given her family history Lucy was terrified that she would end up just as crazy and violent as her mother. Knowing Lucy couldn't tell her dad about this she sought solace in her brother who despite not knowing a lot about what Lucy was going through was there for her when she needed someone to talk to or needed someone to yell at. The real help though was her aunt Beth. Having grown up with Diane, Beth seemed to know exactly what Lucy was going through. When Lucy had a particularly bad day with her power she’d give Aunt Beth a call and the older woman knew exactly how to calm her down. For Lucy’s fourteenth birthday Beth bought her a pair of noise cancelling headphones and an iPod to help tune the voices out. After Lucy graduated High School a woman showed up on their doorstep. She was from an organization called NEST. Apparently as part of a government mandated program Lucy was required to attend a school that would teach her how to handle her powers. This came as a shock to Lucy’s father who up until that moment thought his daughter had dodged a bullet in the telepathy department. Family: Mother – Diane Parker (insane) – telepathic Father – Daniel Parker Brother – Jackson Parker Aunt – Elizabeth Peterson – never married Aunt – Kiera Knightly – five kids, sometimes judgmental Uncle – James Peterson – eight kids, is a very interesting fellow, his visits always mark a good time for all the kids. Cousin – Katherine “Kathy” – quirky likes fantasy Cousin – Susan “Sue” – adventurous, not as into the fantasy thing but she goes along with Kathy cause it usually means exploring caves or forests or something. Between Lucy’s two aunts and uncle she has thirteen cousins. She only really knows two of them really well though they don’t visit often. Relationships None yet Abilities Power Class: Cerebral - The Mind. Power: Telepathy Lucy's abilities are largely uncontrolled. She tends to absorb the conscious thoughts of everyone around her unless she is constantly making the effort to block them out. In the past when she'd pushed harder Lucy has been able to tap into memories of other people. She doesn't like to do this much because of the level of concentration required and it leaves her with a slimy feeling depending on what she’d delved into. Future Powers Spatial Sense Lucy already has to ability to sense other minds, it makes it difficult to sneak up on her but with a great deal of training she could expand this to encompass being able to sense her surroundings even through solid objects. Being aware of what's going on on the other side of a door or being able to sense the inside of an object like say a safe. Though this is a good deal of training away for her. Limits: Unlike her mother and perhaps good for her sanity Lucy is not actually capable of taking in everybody’s thoughts at once. After a certain number of people the shear amount of thoughts she’s hearing tends to fade to a more distracting white noise, where she knows she hearing voices but she can't understand anything specific. Lucy's spatial sense has a limit on detail directly proportional to the range she is exhibiting. The wider the field and the further she's looking away from herself the less details she is able to discern. If she shrinks the field to perhaps a half foot squared she could tell you the mass of the objects in the space, the pressure there exerting on other surfaces, even the wavelength of light that represents the colors present. Wider fields like say the space of a room will only give her the general impression of everything in the room and any audio taking place there. A lot of the details save the really important ones don't stick with her once Lucy turns her spatial sense off. Weaknesses/Drawbacks: When Lucy’s powers are active which lets face is most of the time her other senses become like a raw nerve. Bright colors or loud sounds make a huge impact and not in a good way. If she is trying to block out thoughts it will often shake her concentration. Lucy has some coping methods that she uses to tune out the thoughts of others which depending on what she’d doing and the specific thoughts she’s hearing work to some level of accuracy. Her control over her ability tends to go to hell when she’s in any sort of emotional distress. Lucy's spatial sense tends to supersede her normal senses. When she's using it Lucy could be perfectly aware of something happening in a dorm room across from hers but be completely numb to anything that is going on near her body. This could be very dangerous as Lucy would have no idea what was happening to her body at the time. Sample Post: Lucy cut through the woods behind her house. The high school was through a graduation bonfire down by the beach and Lucy had volunteered to arrive early and lite the flames. There was nothing she loved more than building a towering inferno. When she got there Tom Miller was already by the water with a pickup full of logs that would be perfectly sized. Lucy pulled the thirty or so newspapers she’d brought out of her backpack and started to construct the perfect fire while trying not think about the fact that Tom who was standing ten feet away was thinking of some blonde girl he was planning on making his latest conquest. Lucy focused on the wood she was building up tuning out as best she could the thoughts that were coming off Tom. Seriously was that all teenage boys thought about, it was disgusting. Soon enough Lucy had a good looking base of wood stacking tepee style with every available crevasse stuffed with newspaper and kindling. It was time to like this sucker up. Lucy took out a match book and lit several key points around the flames and soon enough the whole thing was ablaze. The fire toward five feet in the air and by the nights end she was hoping to get it up to more like eleven feet. It was rather satisfying when though he didn't say anything Lucy heard an oh shit, look at that burn from Tom. This was certainly going to be a good night.
