It's the year 1862. The world is in chaos as the first steam engine has just been invented, and the balance between magic and machine is once again off. There are five kingdoms: the northern kingdom, the eastern kingdom, the western kingdom, the southern kingdom, and the center kingdom. To the north is full of mountains and pine forests. Dragons lurk up there as well as the feared Jabberwocky (see Aloce in Wonderland). To the east are seasonal forests and prime farmland. To the west are dry deserts. Many creatures have adapted to survive in the harsh territory. There are cities made of clay and people who roam the sands. The center kingdom was composed of fields and farms. But people took over, and the whole kingdom is a giant city now. A kingdom comprised of green emeralds and machinery. (see the Wizard of Oz). In the south fishermen dwell. The cities are few and small. The people there are uneducated with worldly matters. Our characters dwell in the northern kingdom. That way we get a good start, all in the same area- (they don't have to live there, they can just be traveling) Your character is trying to complete their fairytale subconciously, or already has lived it, and is living the life after "happily ever after". At the same time, the conflict of magic vs. machinery is beginning to worsen. People think machinery should replace magic. And others believe that magic is too old to replace and that machinery is unnatural. Pick a side, and hold on as our world plunges into one of war, chaos, and happily ever afters. Clarification: your character should be the character of a fairytale. Please state what your character's stance is on magic vs. machinery.
