Watching the monkey... thing claw at the commander for a few moments, Carter stepped outside, fumbling a bit with his pistol. Shame it had ran; he was sure that they would want to analyze it back at the lab, finding all the little quirks of his biology. He inched across the ground, fully expecting to be attacked at any moment, spinning to try to watch everywhere. It was hard to take in all this, honestly. The giant mushrooms probably had some sort of connection like some back on Earth did. He supposed that if so, the planet's largest organism was probably the mushrooms, collectively. He was probably walking over some of it right now. Seeing a small twitch, he jumped. Suddenly, it occurred to him that the monkeys might not be the top of the food chain around here. Well, he'd find out eventually, he supposed.
