.gifv format doesn't hotlink very well, so insteadhere's a link and a video explaining one more reason to never set foot in the hellish abyss known as "your watery grave," or the ocean, or whatever.

Video doesn't load, but from memory, this is the blue-ringed octopus, found in north Australian waters. Very small octopus with superb sand camouflage until it's disturbed, in which case the flashing blue rings warn that its saliva contains neurotoxins. Due to its size, the initial nip from its beak is nearly painless.

E: Video's back, I mistook north for south but was otherwise right. c:

Some key stats -- their venom is in the ballpark of 12,000 times deadlier than cyanide, and despite their size, a single octopus is capable of murdering 26 adult humans in one go. Death takes approximately 90 minutes, and is caused by near-instant paralysis which spreads to the heart and lungs. There is no antivenom, and if you see the rings, you're already dead. Their bite doesn't even really register -- but they don't actually have to even bite you, they can poison the water and kill you just by being close.

Man, it would be easy to commit suicide in Australia. Just go outside and you're dead instantly.

You're right. Funnel-webs love the indoors.

Risk education and overstating the wildlife danger so that foreigners think we're crazy.
