Jäger sat staring out of the window, watching the scenery as it passed her by through the bus window. The sound of muted conversation filled the air, though she paid little attention to it, a pair of earphones worn over her ears blocking out the majority of the noise. The playlist had finished a long time ago, Jäger so caught up in her own thoughts that she had barely noticed. She was nervous. They all were, though some more so than others. In Jäger’s case it was plain to see as she absentmindedly twirled some hair between her fingers. Anyone familiar with the leader of the Archery Club was familiar with her little mannerisms. For Jäger fear was something that showed not on her face or in her voice but in the way she acted Even now there was a part of her that regretted agreeing to this plan, however it was far too late to back out now. She was in the country. She was wearing the uniform. ‘That’ uniform. And on her lap sat the instrument that she would soon be forced to put to use, sealed within a cylindrical tube that sat upright on the seat next to her. She turned and looked down at the tube, staring at it for a moment before suddenly becoming aware of the sound of lively conversation. She turned toward Aaron and Kageta and frowned in annoyance. “Yay-gurl?” she said in a flat tone with an equally flat expression. She sighed softly before removing the headphones from her ears. “My name is Charlotte. Char-lotte, say it with me, Char-lotte. Or Jäger. But not ‘gurl’. I will never answer to that again,” she said with no real enthusiasm before turning back toward the window. They would be arriving soon. Then there really would be no turning back. She smiled softly to herself. “Sorry, I’m just nervous.”
