[@The Scotsman] Sweet! I live in a smallish town too; I'm the best five hundreder on our team by like a minute. As far as how I exist, lots and lots of yardage. I went into high school when I was eleven and the only race I actually had a chance to make states in was the five hundred... I qualified, got thirteenth (missed finals by .03 freaking seconds) and my coaches have been grooming me to be a five-hundred-er since then. My high school coach is an idiot, however; she thinks that forcing me to do 7800 yards in less than two hours is going to be conducive to my ability to swim. (For the record the one time she gave me that workout I managed 7300 in an hour and a half and then she called me out and I did another 500 sprint off the blocks. And afterwards I was so dizzy my teammates had to drag me out of the water and literally carry me to the locker room.)
I've always butted heads with my coaches because I have the build for a distance swimmer but I get bored and lazy so I can't do anything over 400 before I lose track and kinda just paddle along. That's super shitty, that .03 seconds thing. I missed Nationals by about 2 seconds (so, y'know, a long ass time), but it still hurts. Out of curiosity, what's your 100m free time?
