Name
Levian Protego
Sex
Female
Age
34
Race
Human
Affinity
Gelum
Personality
In a word: Protective Soft-Hearted, but cold fronted. She likes cute things, collects smooth rocks, and likes to box. While she isn't a very violent person, she vents her anger into her boxing. Fights with shields, mainly in the spirit of protecting those around her. Believes that anyone deserves a chance. While her trust is easily gained, once broken it is usually lost for good. She hates tight, enclosed spaces and pitch dark areas. She is often the first to light a fire or torch. She loves cooking, but isn't the best at it. She has... strange tastes. The loudest to laugh, but not very outspoken. She likes being in large groups and is terrified of being alone. Her favorite color is green, she dislikes yellow. She loves, loves, loves sweets and enjoys spicy food. She Values Most A 'family' meal. In essence, she deeply values the chance to sit and eat with her closest friends and family. She doesn't realize that this is what she would love more than anything as she is not often thinking of a worry-free meal and after spending most of her life on her own, she was used to eating alone. Her Motivation Always Changes but is Always the Same Levian strives to protect all around her. She is the first to break up a fight amongst comrades, the first to step into a trapped hallway. She does not handle loss very well and tends to shoulder a lot of the blame if someone she cares about gets hurt.
Fighting Style
Shield-Based Combat/Hand-To-Hand - Her 'weapons' are large bucklers (about 32 inches in diameter) that lock onto her heavy gauntlets. The bucklers usually hang from her hips. When she readies up, she simply swings her arms by her hips, quickly equipping the shields to her gauntlets. Due to her hobbies, her upper body strength is high, but she is slow and not very agile. She is trained in basic boxing maneuvers and defensive/protective stances.
Bio
Early Life Levian Protego, born a to a poor farmer as the third of eventually five children. She was raised as a son, like her two brother before her and the two brothers after her. Once she was thirteen, she ran from her home, wanting more than farm life. She went to the nearest town in the rough and tumble plains of Feldspar to find herself a scholar. She only found the city boys to be mean and they bullied her to the outskirts. She had traveled far from her home, and her remaining rations had been stolen or destroyed by the bullies. She felt her heart ache with regret and fear of death. She was to die outside of a strange town and she could only picture her small corpse being picked at by the greats beasts that prowled the sands at night. The girl cried, not for the first time in her life and definitely not for the last time. She was found at dusk by a guard for the city. They took her into the barracks where she met someone she would try her hardest to emulate. A knight of sorts, the guard captain taught the young girl about chivalry and protecting others. For eight years, Levian learned the basics of being a guard, as well as a few classroom lessons. Reading, cartography, writing, arithmetic, geography, and a very base instruction on affinities. The city she was in didn't have very many, if any real, sages. Levian knew of magic, as traveling shows would often pass by but she had no idea how to even go about casting magic nor what her own affinity might be. Young Adulthood After six years of schooling, Levian discovered she got very nervous holding a sword, or bow. Her hand-eye coordination wasn't very good and she wasn't very accurate. With the obvious flaw, being a guard was out of the question for the young human. She asked her teacher and guardian for the last few years what she should do. She wished to protect people but could not fight conventionally. She focused on using tower shields, or smaller bucklers. The young would-be guard often found herself out at night, the chill air was always very exhilarating to her. She made friends with one of the night patrols and was eventually accompanying her through the night streets, talking about anything they could imagine. One night, Levian's friend wasn't on time and there wasn't a replacement for the patrol. Fearing for her friend, she traced the route alone. Since she wasn't an actual guardsman, she wasn't armed. Despite this, Levian was a strong person. She took a lot of time to work out, keeping herself in shape for the day she might one day be eligible for the guardsman lifestyle. She happened across a pool of blood near the started of the patrol route. It was fresh and it only spelled of a grim fate for Levian's friend. The young woman followed the signs of struggle to her fallen friend. The corpse was hidden away in an alley, stripped of anything valuable. Only the guardsman armor and shield remained as no one in the city would every buy stolen guard equipment. Donning the shield and collecting the armor of her friend, Levian thought to return to the barracks. She had started to leave but came to a halt when she realized both ends of the alley she was in were blocked by a group of men. Feeling her life was in danger, she slipped her head into the guardsman's helm and dropped the excess armor. Without words, she knew what was about to happen. While most of the fight was a blur to her and Levian doesn't really recount the incident well, she did survive. Two of the men approached her, hoping to restrain the young woman. She had them both flat on their backs with a quick jab with the end of the shield. This only made the other two men run at her full speed. She was tackled by one, but deftly caught his midsection with the blunt of the shield, tossing him up and over her. She had not been quick enough to stop the blow to her head, quickly collapsing the young woman. She had put up a fight, but it didn't seem enough to save her life. She was knocked out and could not bear witness to the guard captain coming to her rescue. More Present-Ish Given a medal for her bravery, Levian became something of a folk hero in the city she called home for so many years. But she had lost her dear friend, and her mentor, the guard captain, was growing frail. The city was empty to her. She was never given a guardsman's position, but she was allowed the issuance of a mercenary's license. She utilized this license to help develop something more akin to weapons for her own personal use. For ten years, the young woman trained both her body and mind. She would not let another one of her friends die. She would not let herself be overcome by impossible odds. Levian based the design of her weapon on the bucklers of old, deciding the round shape would be good for defense. She chose large gauntlets as the base to her defensive weapon. The shields lost their completely round shape in favor of a blunt edge meld to allow the hardened knuckles of the gauntlets to be used as well as allow for easy hand usage when the weapon was engaged. After her 30th birthday, and the passing of her mentor, Levian left her adopted city for her home of old. She met with her mother, who had been distraught for the first few years and eventually gave up on Levian ever coming home. Her father had passed but the farm was well cared for by her two older brothers and a younger brother who was learning the ropes. Her youngest brother was more akin to Levian, seeking the life of a guardsman. Levian said her goodbyes, promising to return one day with presents. An empty promise, but it was necessary for her to keep from breaking down in front of her mother. She trekked to the nearest port and began listening in on the stories and rumors of the world. She hears of a land plagued by deathly tides. Surely, she thinks to herself one evening, Surely this place has need of some protection. I suppose I aught to go check it out. While it does take the woman a couple years to get the means. She sets her course for Ebb of Aqua, hoping to find herself some decent work and someone to protect. After all, she spent so long making the means, now she needs a reason.
Appearance
