All in all, the character seems pretty much sound (to me, the not-GM). All I've really noticed are connections to one of my characters and just the odd thing to maybe take another look at.
Drew is ambivalent about muggleborn and muggles. He sees them as other people, and now they are people that must be protected from Voldemort. Has a particular interest in muggle machinery, as well. [...] Following his graduation, his parents found that the environment in Britain was becoming too hostile, with Death Eaters pressuring them to join. They instead chose to flee, to where even Drew does not know. He refused to leave, frustrated with the state of magical Britain. He worked at the Ministry, learning what he could about the opposition.
Both of these are fairly similar to my character, Larry (check the Character tab because I'm an idiot and put him there). I prefer the 'hey, let's make it work' thing (rather than 'I got there first' thing), so maybe Larry and Drew were colleagues of sorts in the Ministry? Larry was a big mover and shaker in the anti-Voldemort camp (and then a big mover and shaker in the pro-Voldemort camp because the Imperius Curse does wonderful things to a guy). Coincidentally, Larry also dabbles in muggle technology. Perhaps they worked together on how muggle tech works at some point?
and his studies in arithmancy helps understand both their machines and magical constructs.
Do they? Arithmancy is, and correct me if I'm wrong, basically numerical divination and holistic comprehension of the unfolding of the world, isn't it? I'm not sure how arithmancy helps with muggle tech.
His study of Runes and Arithmancy let him carve patterns into objects, and then cast spells onto it to hold the effect until they are triggered. Using this, Drew can harm, disable, and even kill Death Eaters before they have a chance to react. He also goes after shipments and supplies of stores that are known to aid Death Eaters.
I'm fairly certain McHaggis will have an opinion on this. I can't underline how much I'm not the GM, but I'm gonna predict that McHaggis is gonna be okay with the idea of a way of doing magic that has delayed effects, so to speak, but won't be too convinced by the runic or arithmantic explanations (particularly given what I said about arithmancy above). It might be worth considering using primarily charms or curses instead, if you're talking primarily about booby-traps? We know from examples in canon that objects can be charmed or cursed to have particular magic properties that only become apparent when the object is inspected or the magic is triggered: the cursed necklace in book six (triggered by touch) or the many many products of the Weasley Twins (triggered by ingestion, among other things). On a side-note, it's definitely also something we'll be seeing Larry do.
