With a carefully inspecting eye, the captain began to look over each feature of the small carving. It was about nine inches tall and was crafted from petrified wood that had darkened and become rough over the centuries. Standing upon the circular platform, a humanoid figure with demon features stood, knees slightly bent, holding out four arms tipped with talons. A set of bat like wings were folding on it's back, tattered at the ends, though it was unclear if this was part of the figure or due to ware and tear. A pair of ram like horns curled out from the figures head, growing out just above what appeared to be four eyes and a toothy sneer. The proportions of the statue were comparable to a goblin, having a slightly big head and small wings. Engraved along the circumference of the platform on which the figure stood was a series of ancient symbols of an unknown language or origin. It didn't seem comparable to any hieroglyphics or manuscript from history. As a whole, the statue was an anomaly. It was either really well made or simply someone piece of junk. Perhaps an ancient writers paperweight or maybe something for warding off bad spirits. Or some other superstitions mumbo jumbo. As the captain spent more time gazing upon the statue, drawing out its features and pondering its origins, a subtle influence fell over him. It was like a day dream, with images and shapes briefly fluttering through his mind, similar to the symbols on the idol. Jumbled whispers hissed through his subconscious until something shot up from behind his table. A monstrous claw reached up, covered in blood and ash, quickly slamming down and gripping the captains hand. The shock snapped him out of the daydream, the demonic hand having never existed. The room was quiet and the idol was still, setting on the table where the captain had placed it. Though the feeling of another hand taking a hold of his was only an illusion, somehow, along with the drawing he made of the statue, there were the symbols he saw in his mind, feverishly sketched across the paper, as if he had done it in his sleep.
