I replace my mask before I enter the portal. I drop in, onto the concrete sidewalk next to the sludge. The sewers smell disgusting. Not that I expected anything different from a sewer. After a minute or two, while we're still milling around the portal, I'm able to block it out mentally. I'm left with the scents of my allies, though Clan is trying to cover his up with the muck. It would be enough to fool a dog, but I'm unsure of the tracking capabilities of these goblins. I decide to say nothing. "So what do you guys say? Divide and conquer, clear more ground to find our comrade faster? Though, we kind of have to deal with the goblins single-handed as well." Neo suggests on how to proceed, followed by Clan's idea. "Two by two, Neo and Silk, Murdock and me. We keep teams and double ground coverage. I assume for scanner purposes, we were not given radios to communicate with." "Wait." I say, and then I start to listen, and focus on what I hear. The sludge is shifting back and forth. A bug is scrabbling up the wall behind me. Six legs. No Spider-Man or Goblin within a few blocks. Anyone could have figured at least that, these sewers echo well. A blessing and a curse. I wouldn't be able to hear from this far away if they didn't, but the Goblins will be able to hear us as we approach. I focus further. I hear the engine and jets from a glider, and cackling voices. "The itsy-bitsy spiIiIIder..." "Come out and plaaAaaAYYyy..." "HAhahaHAHAHahAHaHaH!" Their echoed taunts are nothing if not unnerving. I feel safer knowing that the Goblin of my world is no threat, having been dead now for about a year. He was too dangerous for me to allow otherwise. From the same direction I can faintly make out footsteps and the triggering of a web shooter. He's on the edge of my range, I'll lose him soon. If we go now, we can probably catch our target before we run into any Goblins, though they'll hear us coming and will find us shortly after. If we waste any more time, I'll lose him and have no more of a clue than any of the others. "No need to split up," I say. A response to the previous idea, only a minute or so passed while I listened. "He's that way." I point. "We can catch him first if we hurry." With a little more urgency, I add, "Now!"
