Doc Coltrane is a Tier II Engineer who is very influential in the field of biology in Voldoa. Hailing initially from England, he helped to discover Germ Theory and is now attempting to study a way to cure infections. A rather eccentric and cocky fellow, he is known for walking about the city wearing a white coat and being followed by a lesser flesh golem bodyguard. Doc Coltrane was once a Tier III Engineer, but for an unknown reason requested to be moved to the surface. He lives in a fairly large house which doubles as a workshop on the border of Old Voldoa and Arboretum. For fighting purposes, Doc Coltrane owns a breech-loading bolt-action rifle, though he usually keeps it locked up at home unless there’s some kind of emergency.  [/center]

In Arboretum, not far from the border with Old Voldoa, there lies the Village of the Mushroom Men, a small round village built in a marsh where the Mushroom Men dwell. Marcello is a mushroom man about five feet tall. and weighing around two hundred pounds (mushroom men are notoriously heavy). He isn’t the most intelligent of creatures (Mushroom men are also notoriously stupid) but Marcello makes up for what he lacks in brains with brawn and loyalty. After protecting his village and an incapacitated Doc Coltrane (little too much mushroom ale, doctor) from a rampant treant, Doc had Marcello promoted to Hand status and made him his personal assistant. 

Marcello is a fairly handy guy to have around. Though he’s not bright, he’s incredibly strong and possesses magical spores, which he can release to create smokescreens and to damage enemies. The spores are magically charmed so that Marcello can use them for a kind of earth magic, but they also have the effect of intoxicating those who inhale too many of them. He is fairly durable as well, having a body main mostly of chitin, but he burns extremely easily and is afraid of fire. [/center]
