Tomorrow I think I'm going to finally get around to doing my history section in the sheet as well. I know what's going on with Yamatai and I think Voltus and I have a rough idea, but @Mihndar do you want to have some history too?

Specifically, two things popped out to me about your sheet:

"...it contains large minorities of various different races... and small numbers of Tinites."

and

"an extensive spy network to support worker's revolutionary movements in other countries"

Incidentally, mine has the little quip:

"In the past Tin has also vigorously fought to push its faith into other countries, and where they succeeded the converts often rebelled and served as spies for the Tin, which has only thrown fuel onto the fire in this situation."

You can probably see where this is going. I think that we could work something out of this, if you want.

I put that there would be small numbers of Tinites primarily to indicate that very few of them leave your nation, as you said you have very strict immigration and hence I presume emigration policies, but sure. The Kataylans have no religion and no policies surrounding that, and that would lay a groundwork for a lot of conflict in the past if you had been actively promoting your faith, and certainly now with the new government.

What about nuclear power, but not weapons?

In regards to nuclear power, it's hinted at that Ytterban could make a breakthrough in that realm. Radioactivity is a known field among the Technomancers, and of course there have been efforts to make some use of the materials. Whether or not those efforts are an actual thing, I'll respect GM's wishes regarding the matter. Regardless, there would not be any kind of weaponization of the technology, even if nuclear power was a thing.

Oops, I think that was a typo.
Anyways, jet fighters are very much a thing in WW2 era.
I can understand if you don't want anyone using that technology in the begining. I mean without WW1 there isn't even that whole arms race about air superiority. Many nations would only begin to see the potential in aircrafts as weapons.
On the other hand the technology is there or in a very few aspects almost there. I can't see any wrong in introducing jet fighters after the war drags on for a while.
Like I said, jet airplanes at the time were not too different from their propeller-driven counterparts. And no, their range wasn't much better than other aircraft. Their speed was the main factor and even then you had to wait a while after WW2 when somebody developed a jet aircraft capable of surpassing the speed of sound. We sure won't get anything resembling modern jet fighters here.
Jets in WW2 were best used as interceptors (albeit Hitler tried to force the creation of jet bombers with the small size and other issues they were just not fit for that at all).
So yeah, can't see what harm is in them being allowed for later in the game.
Having jets from the start would be unfair because it's like starting your MMO with a sword which others can only forge once reached 250 skill points in blacksmithing.

@Murtox Do you mind me adding in your country to my history as raiders to mine? Maybe at one point you assume control of mine and around the 15-1600's there was some independence war type of thing?

Also at one point we should assemble a world map and fill in the gaps with some AI type nations

My nation is not that kind of expansionist and our nations doesnt have too much in common culture , but what we can do is that my nation could have some problems with yours since the colonial era , because my nation is something like a modernized Inca Empire which survived the colonialism.@thegreenleafe

Ditto, but don't you already have those weird geomagnetic generators? Why would you want nuclear power?

Thegreenleafe, that would actually be perfect for me since we used to be an empire and I have no colonies, former or current, otherwise.

Wouldn't really be using it for anything other than something to highlight the eccentricity of Ytterban and their scientific prowess. Whatever they did come up with(Assuming it would be a thing) wouldn't reach a point where it was more efficient than the Iron Core for at least a few decades, even getting to the level of 1990's Nuclear Power. I say that because over time they'll be developing the Iron Core further, and at some point the generators will be able to output enough power to negate their start-up costs and essentially become free-energy. Such things are not anywhere close, however, and are merely the dreams of Ytterban, but it's something to work towards. Besides(Suddenly back to nuclear) developing such technology would give Eisenkreis something to do with the veins of radioactive material deep beneath the mountains of Ytterban.

So it's a bit of an odd question, but considering this isn't Earth, can I have larger than normal bears?

I was thinking of armoring them and training them and using them as tanks, considering my nation doesn't have much industrial technology. Considering this is a fantasy NRP, it would be interesting to have a biological alternative to mechanized warfare.

If not, I can go with elephants, since those actually exist. But I'm trying to be more stereotypically Russian.

By the way, there is still room for my nation, right? It's not gonna be very big, but I want to make sure I'm not getting pushed out :)

Hmm, I would check the claims of everyone so far, but I'm sure there's room enough for a small nation.

@HaelThe tail of land next to my country is still unclaimed if you want to be my neighbor. Otherwise I think that the top right corner of the map is really empty right now.

Haven't decided on a place yet.

Also, my nation is shaping up to be a bit more fantasy than the others. I'll try not to take it too far, of course, but it's probably gonna be a wee bit odd. No magic, but many of my people won't be human if that's acceptable.

Well they probably would be more lax on emigration since it is their desire (and within their interests) to seed other nations with people of their culture and religion, in the hope that it spreads. That and they have enough people to spare.

But I quoted you because I found it interesting that there was a sizable population of Tinites as all. Presuming that they did not abandon the Ajdar Faith, they would still have some degree of loyalty to Tin because its leader is also the head of their religion. Kind of like how many people in Catholic realms used to respect the Pope more than their own king, and sometimes people even paid taxes to the Papal State instead of the local lords.

Anyways, I'd imagine that relations between our nation would have been sour as of late due to yours suddenly abolishing its monarchy to create a Communist Republic. Just look at the uproar that ensued amongst nearby nations after the French Revolution abolished the nation's monarchy.

And if your nation saw Tin's monarchy as a threat (which it conceivably would) and tried to start a Communist Revolution over there, it'd make sense for Tin to seek to similarly overthrow you by sending missionaries to spread their own Conservative ideology and encourage the local Tinites and other Ajdars to rebel. Sending all these missionaries and encouraging people to move to your country would also explain why there are even Tinites over there to begin with.

So basically what I'm proposing was a Cold War-esque rivalry and war of espionage between us.

Yeah, that makes sense, and it seems likely that having a small population of Tinites would provoke such a war, considering our revolution.

I'm definitely up for it, and if you add something to that effect to your nation history I'll add something that corresponds to mine.

Also, out of boredom I drew up a really rough map of the global claims, but it's clear enough to get a general idea of how things are.

Areas with lines drawn upon them represent contested or colonial areas.

I have no idea why Yamatai only has 7.5 million people, that seems incredibly low in comparison to everyone else. Eisenkreis is kind of low but then again they are mostly inland it seems, so lower population density.
