In Victorian England the only profession where a young girl was allowed to be in the same room as a man she wasn't married to while he wasn't wearing his trousers (or other appropriate leg garments) was a seamstress, and so London town had several hundred of them registered on the census. There was also twenty needles in the town at the time, so the girls must've been really good at sharing. That or they were upto something other than sewing while alone with a man they weren't married to who had his trousers off.
