Yes, older melee weapons are still very much in common use.  There doesn't seem to be any gunpowder as such, so 'firearms' are specifically ranged weapons that use ferrum, and are pistols.  Blundergust is a stannum weapon that is essentially a blunderbuss/shotgun.  Lotta made mention of a Lightning rifle which I imagine uses lumen and is something like a bolt-action rifle.

Let's say these ranged weapons are somewhat expensive to use since they require [i]caith[/i] crystals, and maybe they're not quite as powerful as comparable gunpowder weapons - so melee weapons like swords/spears/axes are still very common.
