Still Recruiting War. War never changes. Since the dawn of human kind, when our ancestors first discovered the killing power of rock and bone, blood has been spilled in the name of everything: from God to justice to simple, psychotic rage. In the year 2077, after millennia of armed conflict, the destructive nature of man could sustain itself no longer. The world was plunged into an abyss of nuclear fire and radiation. But it was not, as some had predicted, the end of the world. Instead, the apocalypse was simply the prologue to another bloody chapter of human history. For man had succeeded in destroying the world - but war, war never changes. In the early days, thousands were spared the horrors of the holocaust by taking refuge in enormous underground shelters, known as vaults. But when they emerged, they had only the hell of the wastes to greet them. 2285, Memphis, Tennessee, on the very edge of the Dixie Wasteland. The state's sprawling hills protected many from the destruction of the Great War, but those close to the river had not been so lucky. Memphis became the target of tens of nuclear bombs in order to eliminate one of the country's major commerce hubs. The inner city is largely devoid of people, save for a few UAF outposts, but mutants and animals are on the prowl at all times of day. The Mississippi River continues to flow, but its ability to support life is long gone. The radiation levels in the water are enough to kill a normal human being in seconds. The bridges that used to connect Memphis to Arkansas were damaged beyond repair in the war, and what remains is covered in over two centuries of rust. The only method of crossing the river is through the use of river boats, and even those are few and far between. With Caesar's Legion in the West, and remnants of the Unamerican Activities Force in the East, there's plenty of opportunity for trouble in this river town.
