No, he was rejected for some reason by the King's army, probably because, at 15, he was too young. But he packed up and put his skills to work, taking to the woods, eliminating any enemies he found there and protecting it from being torn apart by war.

If that's too much I can attempt to scale it back a bit, or make him older or something.
