Biography: Jack's great great great grandfather was a bit of an eccentric, changing the family name from Hexstring to Luminos. Why is this worth noting? well ever since jack was born people have joked that he must be a bright guy, even while he makes mistake after mistake after mistake. The corps didn't treat him all too good with a name like that. His parents were nobodies. His farther was a criminal, locked up and executed on his fifth birthday and his mom was a maintenance worker over at a construction plant. Jack didn't have too good of a life growing up. Time after time things kept going wrong, all of it leading up to him being seized by child services around the age of 12. Before he knew it Jack was off earth and off living on the lunar colony. There it wasn't much better. he moved from foster home to foster home till the government just kind of gave up. Jack seemed to be like a set of black cats crossing some family's path. when he showed up, well things went bad. first set of fosters divorced three weeks after adopting jack and then the one who did get him in the end got sent to jail on drug charges. next set were involved in a car accident, and the third? well the third kept him as strange as that sounds. Jack's third foster parents may not have been the best people and he was the proverbial red headed step child even though his hair was so brown it was practically black. if there was something to be blamed for, well he was blamed for it. bad traffic, brother scoring low on a test, you name it he was blamed for it... then came military school after his "parents" got so fed up with him causing "trouble". That opened his eyes a bit. it wasn't him who was the problem, it was just a habit he seemed to have of being surrounded by either idiots or assholes. after military school was done and over with Jack left home a bit on the early side, joined the lunar military, and lived a rather predictable life in the service for a few years. as sad as it sounds Jack was happy being a grunt. sure he got yelled at in training but it was a nice change of pace seeing everyone else get yelled at as well for a change, became par for the course. his military career wasn't stellar, but he stayed on for a good few years, clawing his way to the rank of staff Sargent before he finally called it quits, desiring something a bit more on the quiet side. He signed up for a job opportunity on mars, operating a utility rig for construction down on the new colonies. truth be told though that job paid like crap, but it did have one benefit, great cigars. After three years working down on mars Jack was hungry for something new, something that hopefully paid better, and he found it... Deep Space Victoria. The company itself was mostly academic. bunch of explorers and scientist types making a load of cash off of newly discovered planets and resources. So when something came up for an expedition to some planet called Corona, Jack jumped on board. only thing that put him off was the deep space communication system they had all set up with the camps on Corona... waiting a week or more for word back on a question was stressful. but regardless, it was a new chance at life... he hoped things would turn out alright, but knowing his luck, things were gonna get a whole lot worse.
