[@Dirty Dan] I am not opposed to your weapon being a bow, but if you're really going for a hunter then I'd say there is a very, very high chance you would have been out hunting with a rifle. The lightweight crowbar and the solar powered light also seem highly convenient yet unlikely considering your family rarely visited town. Another example of convience would be that your grandfather happened to be a professor.

However, we are starting in a large urban city, something you rarely or never visited. All your skills are virtually useless here, your bow is quite hard to use because of large distances and possible harsh winds. The prospect of large groups of infected also render your chance to use arrows multiple times slim at best.

So considering your handicap in the urban environment and your lack of knowledge of most things outside your local area, the character is accepted. My suggestions can be taken with a grain of salt, from my point of view some things feel a bit as meta-gaming, something which is difficult to avoid when having to come up with an inventory and equipment.
