It'd be interesting if the anti-magic sentiment had a strong religious bent to it. That would cast magic users (and scholars of magic) as Galileos of their time- a battle of progressives against conservatives. It also might explain why Klaus lost tenure at Highmont. Hmm. I can work with this. 

What about the politics of magic? Is the crown opposed to magic in any particular way?
