Sam Clarke
[@Mr Allen J] [@He Who Walks Behind]
Sam was reluctant to admit that he was having fun. This was all kind of entertaining, the flow of adrenaline and the rush of gratitude from the people who he was protecting. In civilian situations like this, Sam preferred not to use his gun and to instead fight with his knife and his combat experience. Guns were less accurate than a fist or a blade. As he ran through the crowd, attempting to liberate people who were being attacked by the Fiends. A middle-aged woman was pinned to a tree, a Fiend injecting her with a syringe of mutagen. Sam slashed clean through the glass syringe with his knife and then drove his knee into the Fiend's gut, knocking the wind out of him. As the man keeled over, Sam punched him in the jaw as hard as he could. The Fiend cried out and fell backwards into a fetal position, his jaw fractured. Now what to do with the infected. The woman's eyes were staring off into the distance and her skin was beginning to turn a sickly purple. Her pupils dilated and she began breathing savagely, foam running from her lips. Sam took the syringe from her arm and pondered what to do. Seeing that there weren't any Fiends in his general area, he reappeared. Sam didn't want to hurt a civilian, but she would be a major risk. As he thought, the Fiend laying on the ground rolled over onto his stomach and lunged towards Sam's ankle, digging his teeth into the leather of Sam's boot. Sam looked down, surprised that a man was biting him with a broken jaw, and, pulling out his gun, shot the Fiend twice in the back. It stopped moving. Sam rose his hand to his ear and spoke over the NEST comms: "NEST this is KINGFISHER CORMORANT, I have a civilian injected with Fiend mutagen here. Can someone direct her to the NEST medical tent?" "KINGFISHER CORMORANT, this is NEST actual. We are sending an agent to your current location to apprehend the civilian. Attack a GPS beacon to her is you're going to move again, over!" Sam pressed a button on his computer, and a small metal button popped out of the side. He grabbed it and stuck it to the woman's clothing. She attempted to slash at him, and he realized that he had no choice but to defend himself. She screeched barbarically and ran towards him like an animal. He backpedaled, falling onto his back as she advanced, and grabbed for his rifle. From where it hung at his hip he fired five times into the woman's chest (she was right on top of him, so it was near-impossible to miss. The mutant screamed and fell back, her chest sizzling as the Serum 17 kicked in. He shot her in the forehead with another pellet and she hissed, clawing at her face with her claws which were once fingernails. He fired a few more times. As she rolled in the grass like a mad dog, Sam grabbed a metal trashcan and removed the bag, tossing it at the Fiend laying dead on the ground (trash goes with trash, right?). He ran over and, as she attempted half-heartedly to lunge at him, shoved her into the can. She screamed and rattled around, but she could no longer move. He placed the trash can upside down in front of the tree and then moved away, reactivating his invisibility. Soon, Sam reached the edge of the fair, where he found some NEST agents and local police (who were entirely useless and unnecessary in Sam's opinion) directing civilians away from the fair and towards the bridge off of the island. Up above, a meta was shrouding herself in fog, and Michelle transformed. Suddenly, a Fiend laying on the ground rose to its feet and began to walk towards Michelle. It seemed as if all of the dead were rising again. Sighing, Sam grabbed his rifle from his hip and walked towards where Khan was shrouded in fog. Then he deactivated his sound nullification. "Nightingale," he said into the mic "We have a situation over here to your left. Find the shroud of blue fog. A metahuman appears to be reanimating the dead. I could use some firing support. Over." Sam rose his rifle to his shoulder. "Get down!" he yelled. He opened fire on the shroud of fog, flickering into appearance with every shot. Now visible, the animated creatures began to converge on him. As one swiped at him, Sam rolled out of the way and struck it in the back of the neck with the butt of his gun. He shot it twice in the back, but nothing happened. Not even the slightest degree of pain crossed its dead face. Another zombie grabbed his back and wrestled him to the ground. He elbowed it in the face and yanked himself out of its grasp. He ejected the clip of Serum 17 and reloaded a clip of regular bullets. He opened fire on the mob of zombies, but to little avail. His bullets connected, but they did little against the creatures who were already dead. "Nightingale!" Sam shouted.
