Initially, Jack was hoping to spot Ariel already in the cafeteria waiting to eat with him. It was the only part of his day that really helped it feel like things were somewhat okay here. Especially since they didn't manage to dorm together. Nola's doing, he knew that for a fact. He didn't blame the coven matron - it was part of why she sent them to the school - but he didn't have to like it. Heck, if the twins could have dormed together, maybe he'd get sleep. Well, since she wasn't here yet, he supposed he should just get food anyways. She might have gotten held up trying to get to a shower or whatever her reason was. It was just surprising given she was usually the more prompt of the two of them. Yet there he was, already in line with a tray and getting random food to eat. It wasn't so much that he actually paid attention to what he was grabbing. More like he just was on autopilot. Thing of fruit, plate of bacon, a poptart, a milk - he didn't even look to see he grabbed whole milk over strawberry - and a can of Monster. That last one he had actually paid attention to, mostly because he knew he needed the energy drink. Hell, he almost grabbed two of them, given this was the third night in a row he didn't get a wink of sleep. At least he had worked on a spell that wouldn't explode and ruin the dorm if he got it wrong. Not that casting spells was entirely quiet, but it at least wouldn't disturb his roommate any more than studying ancient languages would have. Everything paid for, he glanced around the cafeteria one last time to see if Ariel arrived yet. No luck. Though he did spot the girl Ariel had described to him as her roommate. Cute enough, for someone that wasn't a witch, he supposed. Not his type, but she was looking his way. Maybe she knew what was holding his sister up. Without even giving it a second thought, he headed over to her table. A smile slid onto his face, touching his eyes though just barely, as he stood beside the table. "Hey, this seat taken?" He nodded his head to the seat across from her. After all, even if she didn't know, he'd need to sit and eat somewhere, right? Might as well start off with it being with someone he might be able to talk to a little. Ariel meant to go straight to the cafeteria, she truly did, but there seemed to be a scene unfolding. Well, more like she was walking past toward the cafeteria, and she noticed some poor guy run into a wall. She wasn't actually sure the cause, and even with the minute feeling things could get very bad very fast, but she did notice the blood and it probably wasn't a good sign. Especially when it looked like things were about to take a turn for the dangerous when the kid pulled out a lighter and threatened a vampire - these two things she caught from just what the boy had said. Maybe stopping and watching wasn't a good idea, but she also didn't think letting a student walk around with a bloody lip was either. No, she had to tell herself. A physical shake of her head helped her tear her gaze from what was going on. If they need help, they will ask for it. Or go to the infirmary. Besides, the injured boy probably didn't want any more attention drawn to him than had already gone his way. Of course that hold up put her even further behind schedule than taking her time to make sure she didn't rush anyone out of a shower, or cut in front of anyone to get one. Taking a class first thing in the morning wasn't something she regretted, but wasting time and potentially not being able to eat breakfast with her brother was. It was really the one meal a day they could count on to actually eat together given their class list started to diverge more as the day went on, so lunch and dinner were maybe once a week together at best - short of eating dinner with Nola every Saturday and breakfast with her every Sunday. Adjusting the strap of her bag on her shoulder, she brushed her bangs out of her face and tucked them behind an ear. Her gaze dropped to the ground before she continued on her way. The boys would work out the situation on their own, or someone else would step in and stop it. Either way, she wasn't much good to anyone to stop anything. The best she could do would be to fix an injury if it came into the infirmary while she was there as part of her course on medical treatment using non-magical means. As soon as Ariel entered the cafeteria, she quickly sidestepped to allow a group of gossiping students pass without being in their way. Her gaze drifted quickly over the cafeteria before she spotted her brother - over at a table with her roommate. Okay, not the end of the world. Lennox was a spirited girl, and seemed to have a set idea of things in the room, but people were allowed to and that made Lennox no different. Quickly diverting her attention to the line, she started toward it - then stopped as a few others quickly cut around her to get to the line first. No problem. There would be plenty of food still. Just so long as there was fruit and oatmeal - or even just an apple and some toast - she would be happy. She grabbed a tray, once more stepping back a hair when someone else cut in before her, before managing to secure her place in line to get food.
