One of my favourite parts of Fallout 3 was Big Town. Helping out a small settlement, building its defences and attracting more settlers was fun, and made me feel like I was actually impacting the Capital Wasteland. The prospect of building multiple entirely new settlements from scratch, and customizing them to my liking, is something that I hadn't thought of before, but that is now my most anticipated feature for Fallout 4. I cannot wait for November 10th.
It's unfortunate you receive so little recognition about it, nor does it at all come up in the post-game wrap-up sequence. It's really where Fallout 3 falls short. None of what you do ever presents itself as having long-term repercussions to the plot as a whole. It happens, nothing happens, and it dead ends itself. It's rarely acknowledged - if ever - in GNR broadcasts or NPC dialog and it doesn't trigger anyone to try and come after you for it. Something NV did a bit better. You could determine the fate of settlements with a much larger breadth of impact than F3. Screw with the Powder Gangers? Chance you'll get Powder Ganger hit squads coming for you (in their limited zone of control). Fuck up the Legion or NCR? For sure they'll be sending folk at you, no matter where you are. Then anything else you do with Novac, the Khans, Johnstown, etc etc always comes back to you in the radio.
