Hello~! I'm Hysteria, and following a lull in my usual RPing site, have decided to try someplace a little more active. I've been RPing for a loooong time, primarily in MSN Groups, then moving to ARR on ForumMotion once they switched over. I tend towards advanced, and, even if I'm totally braindead, never do less than 3-4 paragraphs per post. On the opposite spectrum, I've been known to go super overboard on openings and fight scenes, so...you've been warned, lol. I'm a bit on the slow side in terms of responding, because I do work and volunteer most days of the week, and tend to spend a LONG time writing up a reply before posting it. At most, I will do one post per day, but don't be surprised if I skip a day or two. This usually means that I've gotten stuck on something and am ironing out my response to my satisfaction. Or that my internet is acting wonky, lol. I'm pretty open in terms of settings and genre; I usually choose an rp based on the character and the storyline, rather than the genre. That being said, I don't mind plotlines/rps inspired by existing franchises, however I do not like rping in established universes. I'm not huge on planning out entire rps in exhaustive detail before they begin either; I like planning the beginning, maybe an event or two, then just kind of moving spontaneously forward in that direction, building the plot organically as we go, and each adding things here or there to keep things exciting. My characters are always accompanied with anime photos; I've rped this way since I first started and it's a pretty hard habit to break by now. As such, I generally prefer if whoever I'm rping with also supplies anime-style images of their characters, but it certainly isn't mandatory. Now, with regards to the Mature/18+ tags, I include quite a bit of swearing, violence, and generally sensitive topics in many of my rps, hence the tag. Unless an intimate scene is important to the plot or anything though, I tend to lean towards fade-to-black scenes because it's easier to advance the plot that way. So, I guess just expect some Mature scenes, but don't count on there being a lot of them, lol. So, now that you have an idea of how I usually operate things, we can move onto the actual plots and such. I will update these infrequently, but on standard I do plotlines as first-come, first-serve, so I will try to cross out claimed plotlines regularly. Hello Sleepwalkers | Modern, Supernatural (MxM, AngelxHuman, DevilxHuman)
Rion Laroche is going to die in 6 months. He knows this because he recently received a letter in the post stating as much. Oh, and because he woke up to find an angel and a devil sitting in his living room. Apparently, someone shot him five times in the chest before leaving him for dead at the bottom of a lake. Unfortunately, Rion remembers none of that, however his ‘guests’ assure him it is the truth. See, Rion has an unusual soul; it isn’t particularly pure or anything, it’s simply…weird, according to his visitors. More importantly, each of their respective bosses have personally ordered them to retrieve his soul, ideally without starting an interdimensional war by murdering their rivals. Thus, they have come to the agreement that they will give Rion 6 months to make the decision of who to go with. During that time, he is permitted to live out his days normally…however he will constantly be escorted around by at least one of them. Their responsibility is to protect him and sway him toward their respective sides. If Rion dies again without making his decision, his soul will be lost to Purgatory and neither of them will get it. To make matters worse, Rion chooses to spend his time trying to re-trace his footsteps and recall the circumstances of his murder, causing him to stumble into all manner of dangerous situations. As Rion delves deeper and deeper into unravelling the truth, it becomes increasingly clear that someone distinctly inhuman does not want him to discover the truth. Your character could be the angel, the devil, or even both if you so wish ^-^
A Born Coward | Modern, Supernatural, Feudal Japan (MxF, DeityxHuman)
A hybrid between Noragami and Kamisama Hajimemashita, but with a more horror-esque twist. It involves a lot of creatures from Japanese folklore (yokai mostly). This is going to be a looooong explanation, so sit tight. Basically, the world consists of the Near Shore (the mortal realm) and the Far Shore (the afterlife). The Far Shore is occupied by Deities (gods), Phantoms (pure human spirits), Fiends (tainted/corrupt human spirits) and Karma Demons (very powerful tainted spirits; former Deities). Deities each have their own role (e.g. good fortune, the wind, the earth, etc.), and gain all of their power from the wishes of humans. The more renowned a Deity is, the more powerful they usually are. They fight using weapons called Regalia, which are formed from contracts with pure spirits. If a Deity becomes entirely forgotten, their power will destabilize and they will turn into a Karma Demon. Phantoms are the untainted/pure spirits of deceased humans who, due to various reasons, are unable to pass on and be reincarnated. Usually, this is because they died unwillingly when they were human, and still want to live. These pure spirits can become Regalia for Deities; in exchange for their service, their soul will be protected from corruption, and they will be able to maintain a physical body in the Near Shore again. When a Phantom becomes a Regalia, the memories of how they died will be transferred into the subconscious of their Deity and will be forgotten by the new Regalia; this is meant to protect them from becoming traumatized. Deities will often experience these memories as nightmares. Regalia act as weapons and shrine guardians for their Deity; the closer their bond to one another, the more powerful they usually are as a team. Due to this, even if Deities have multiple Regalia, they will tend to use one preferentially over all the others. Due to their contract with their Deity, Regalia are capable of sensing when their Deity is in trouble, and locating where they are in a pinch. Fiends are tainted/corrupt spirits; effectively like mindless parasites which possess people from the Near Shore and feed off of their negative energy, before eating them. Usually, they are created when someone takes their own life, or if their soul becomes corrupted by Karma Demons/Fiends. They are invisible to humans, and most don’t usually cause much harm by themselves, because they’re so weak they can easily be avoided, but some of them are powerful enough to drive their hosts to insanity. Karma Demons are corrupted former Deities; unlike Fiends, they are often extremely shrewd and are always quite powerful. Due to the watchful eye of the Deities, they are trapped in the Far Shore, and must rely on Fiends to draw vulnerable humans to them. They can also become Regalia, but, since they don’t usually get along with Deities AT ALL, they don’t make very good Regalia. Sometimes, a Deity can unintentionally become a Karma Demon simply because their body can’t handle their power; they are usually exterminated before the transformation is complete. Additionally, Karma Demons can possess/manipulate Regalia if they don’t have a strong bond with their Deity. Kohaku Hakumei is a (sort of) average high school graduate who has recently run away from home for…various reasons. When she stumbles into a small city, she finds herself quickly overwhelmed, and ends up being swindled out of all of her money. Due to her depression over these events, a Fiend possesses her and nearly makes her commit suicide by jumping off the roof of a building when your character, a Deity, forces the Fiend out of her body by pulling Kohaku into the Far Shore. Immediately afterward, his Regalia begins acting extremely strange. It turns out that the ‘Fiend’ was actually a Karma Demon in disguise, and it fled from Kohaku’s body into the Regalia’s instead. The possessed Regalia goes to attack the now defenseless Deity…however Kohaku pushes him out of the way and takes the blow instead, sending her careening over the edge of the building. Your character jumps after her to catch her, but realizes that her soul has been damaged by the attack. If she isn’t returned to her human body soon, her soul will disconnect entirely and she will die. Unfortunately, her physical body is still lying on top of the building…where the Karma Demon is lurking. Before he can make a decision, Kohaku ends up unconsciously making a decision in his place; acting on an instinct to survive, she forces a Regalia contract onto your character while they are falling. Since the contract is a little messed up due to the circumstances, it knocks your character unconscious entirely. When he wakes up, he’s lying beside a sleeping Kohaku on the roof of the building, and neither the Karma Demon nor his former Regalia is anywhere to be found. So, long story short, Kohaku ends up tagging along with him as his new Regalia, although she’s actually only half-dead, so things aren’t exactly ‘normal’. She ended up losing a huge chunk of her memories, and she ‘loses’ her body frequently. Basically, her human body will fall asleep, and her soul will pop out instead. In order to fix the problem, the two of them decide to search for the Karma Demon who attacked them, in the hopes of recovering the lost chunk of Kohaku’s soul and reversing their Regalia contract. Along the way, they solve people’s problems, uncover some conspiracy type stuff, and so on and so forth.
ME ME ME | Sci-Fi, Fantasy (MxM)
In an idyllic world, most of humanity lives in vast high-tech districts; usually, this is one major city and the large towns surrounding it. Farther out, small rural villages live off the land, with their only technology consisting of unreliable electricity, prone to constant black-outs. Crime is virtually unheard of within these communities, which are constantly under the protection of Ethics Officers, operating under the governing body; the Board of Ethics. Unbeknownst to the average citizen, the crime rates are so low because of manipulation of the media, covering up by the government, and the existence of an underground community beneath one of the larger districts in the world; Elysium-58. Within this underground community, anything goes; murder, prostitution, trafficking…everything is considered legal for those who can afford a membership. To please their clients, these underground communities frequently kidnap or ‘purchase’ people from rural areas, lone travellers, runaways, etc. In fact, this is where all criminals are sent. To facilitate these underground communities, harsh taxes are implemented against the small rural villages surrounding each respective district, locking them into perpetual poverty and essentially ensuring that there is always an available supply of ‘merchandise’ for the underground community in Elysium-58. Thus, a harsh social caste exists between the villages, towns and cities, although no one would dare to speak of the inequalities, lest they become a target for the Ethics Officers. Each district within the world also has a specialty of some sort, whether it be agriculture, aquaculture, scientific research, military, and so on and so forth. Elysium-58 specializes in entertainment and high society. Essentially, it is where the richest of the rich reside; the central core of the city is literally a gigantic entertainment centre for the elite of society, as well as the headquarters of the Sterling Corporation. On the surface, the Sterling Corporation is the largest conglomerate in the world, serving the public with everything from crop seeds to androids to healthcare. Incidentally, they also run the secretive underground community beneath Elysium-58, and, although no one would dare say as much, are so inextricably involved in government affairs that they essentially influence every decision made by the government. One dark and stormy night, a peculiar young man breaks into a house within one of the larger towns on the outskirts of Elysium-58. After a brief struggle with the occupant of the home (your character), the young man collapses. As it turns out, he is covered in severe injuries and is suffering from a high fever due to exhaustion. Strangely drawn to the young man, your character decides to shelter him until he recovers. The next day, the young man introduces himself as Rion, and reveals that he was fleeing from slave traders. For the first day, Rion seems normal enough, however it quickly becomes obvious that the young man is not quite so innocent as he seems. His injuries heal astonishingly quickly, and he seems oddly persuasive at times. Long story short, Rion is actually an experiment created in another district. He escaped while being transferred to Elysium-58, and is currently being hunted by the Board of Ethics. Known as a Siren, he exudes a powerful pheromone which allows him to manipulate those around him. If he makes eye contact or bodily contact with someone, the effect is even stronger. If the person ingests his saliva or blood, the effect is almost impossible to resist. By using this allure, he can drain someone’s emotions or attempt to influence their thoughts by inducing an almost hypnotic state in them. In fact, if Rion does not either regularly drain an individual’s emotions or receive some kind of suppressing medication for his powers, they can begin to ‘leak’ out and distort the world around him. Usually this manifests as things around him warping to his subconscious thoughts and emotions. For instance, if he is having extremely negative thoughts, the objects around him will gradually become distorted, horrific versions of themselves. This ‘leak’ can even drive living beings to extreme violence or drain so much of their emotions that they become suicidal. Anyway, it turns out your character is virtually immune to Rion’s abilities…and that Rion is being hunted down as a criminal by the Board of Ethics. Afraid of being turned in, Rion takes your character hostage and flees the town. His plan? To sneak right into the main city of Elysium-58 and kill his pursuers right at the source. They end up travelling from town to town, getting caught up in all kinds of harrowing trouble, and so on and so forth.
Journey to the West | Feudal Fantasy Japan/China, Supernatural (MxM)
Eleven years ago, the Emperor, the Empress and the Princess of the kingdom of Qinghae were murdered by the Head Monk of the palace. With no living heir remaining, his nephew, Jie-rui, took the throne. The Head Monk was publicly executed, and the remaining priests were driven from the capital. And so, Qinghae was ushered into a new age; an age of science and war. While Jie-rui did bring together the four main tribes (Sun, Zhu, Sha and Yulong) and ended their conflicts with one another, he also swore to return Qinghae to its former glory. See, the old Emperor was a pacifist; he had forbidden war and, in seeking to avoid it, had given up much of Qinghae’s land to neighbouring countries in order to garner peace. In addition to this, many nobles had taken advantage of the old Emperor; corruption ran deep in the government, and many poor villages suffered as a result of this. Thus, the passing of the pacifist king was not mourned by many. Additionally, due to the execution of the Head Priest in the capital and Jie-rui’s disbelief in the gods, the people began to cast aside and scorn them. Many temples and shrines were burned, and those who openly practiced Shintoism (the primary religion of Qinghae) were ostracized. Now, eleven years later, tensions are at an all time high between the kingdom of Qinghae and its neighbours; war is brewing, and Jie-rui is amassing a massive army to prepare. In the midst of the looming danger, a peculiar name begins to spread around the country; ‘Huanle Sanzo’. ‘Sanzo’ is an ancient honorific meant to designate a Shinto monk who has been given a missive from the gods themselves. Usually, this title is reserved only for the Head Monk of the Shinto main shrine, which, coincidentally, was burned down by Jie-rui during his rise to power. Taking this as a move by the new Sanzo to undermine his authority, the Emperor offers a hefty reward to any who can capture this ‘Huanle Sanzo’, dead or alive. Meanwhile, the young Huanle Sanzo sets out on a journey to find the gods of legend, and obtain the ancient sutras to re-awaken their powers. In doing so, he seeks to chase away the darkness looming over the kingdom before it is seized by something much worse than the chaos of war. Alrighty, so I need to someone to play a descendant/reincarnation of one of the gods (maybe Susanoo, for instance) or a random human mercenary/samurai that Sanzo ends up paying to protect him. It’s up to you; you can play as a human or a god, but, just a warning, the god will be mostly devoid of power because a god needs followers to have power, and right now there aren't a lot of believers remaining thanks to Jie-rui. The mythology will be a blend of Chinese and Japanese folklore. For example, the Vermillion Bird of the South, the White Tiger of the West, the Black Snake/Tortoise of the North, the Azure Dragon of the East, Susanoo, Fujin, Hachiman, Inari Okami, Izanagi, Tenjin, Tsukuyomi, etc.
~-------------------------------~ If none of those plots caught your attention, I also have a couple characters I tend to use pretty frequently. If you think they're a good fit into a plot you have in mind, then just give me a shout and a quick rundown on what you have in mind. Just a heads up though, I only use my male characters for MxM rps, and I tend to prefer slow-building romances in my FxM rps. Isla is shy and becomes nervous easily, yet is always optimistic. Even if she's scared out of her wits, she will always try to put on a brave face. She has a tendency to stick her head into other people’s problems and try to fix them. Very self-conscious, and prone to hiding her own problems and concerns behind a smile. Isla is my go-to character for most things, from feudal to sci-fi settings, and everything in between. Nienna 'Nanni' Luohti [1] [2] [3] A quiet and reserved young woman who hates getting wrapped up in other people’s problems. She tends to come off as unfriendly initially, but once she becomes attached to someone, she tends to mother them. She is a nomad hailing from a northern tribal-type community, so she tends to stick to tradition quite stringently. Once she does get involved in someone’s troubles, she feels responsible for following it through to the end. Nanni is an animal-hybrid with a nomadic lifestyle; she’s usually a merchant or a traveler of some sort. She works best in fantasy settings.
Male Characters:
Rion Laroche [1] Although personable and friendly on the outside, Rion is actually quite caustic with regards to his wit. He has a tendency to hide behind a 'nice guy' persona when dealing with people, but completely changes his attitude if he knows he will need to spend a lot of time with that person. If he does start to like someone though, he will defend them to the death, even if he's insulting them while doing it. He's a bit on the shy side, and tends to be self-deprecating, in spite of his apparent sarcastic cockiness. Rion is my go-to male character for supernatural and modern settings, but he actually works in pretty much any setting. Ruvel Hazeldine [1] [2] A trickster with a rap sheet a mile wide, Ruvel has a silver tongue and whip-like reflexes. He also happens to be a very skilled mage, though you wouldn’t guess it from his usual parlour tricks. A master of forgeries, false identities, and general delinquency, Ruvel tends to wear many different personas depending on the situation, and the current bounty on his head. In reality, he’s too witty for his own good and a bit of an adrenaline junkie, hence his occupation. He has commitment issues and his loyalty tends to be questionable, but he’s probably a good guy at heart. Probably. He works well in fantasy settings. Mikhael 'Mika' Barguest [1] A stoic and levelheaded werewolf with a no-nonsense attitude and an extreme work ethic. Mika lives for his job, and nothing else, due to some hefty debts that will likely take him years to pay off. He is brash, rude, brutally honest, and very smart. He knows when to a pick a fight, and when to slip out the back door while everyone else is fighting. He is also immensely superstitious, a huge cheapskate, and totally immodest. Primarily, he works as a courier, although he also engages in information bartering, kidnapping, theft, and smuggling. He is afraid of thunderstorms and actually has really bad eyesight, but wears contacts because he is too embarrassed to wear his eyeglasses outside of his home. Someone seeing him wearing his glasses is probably one of the only things that embarrasses him. He also used to have anger issues in the past, and thus strictly maintains a very calm, collected demeanour all the time now. He works well in modern, supernatural, and horror rps.
