Most of the violent crime rates are higher for the US. I would expect the higher number of non-violent crimes is influenced more by the relatively more urban nature of Britain compared to how spread out the US is. That website also points toward the American tendency for police departments to cook the books for political reasons as one of the causes of the skewed ratings.
