If you'd like to just leave Alaric on hold and re-introduce him when you're able to come back into the RP then you are welcome to do that. I'm not incredibly reliable with my own posting what with being somewhat busy (School holidays are on so I don't have work for a while, so I guess that leaves me open for a bit), so I probably shouldn't be the one to take control of him.
