Uh.. you just proved my analogy made some sense, to the 'buying customer' a weaker character that they have a better chance of defeating is the 'better product.' 

At the moment all the people getting fights have more vulnerable characters, which in term makes them more appetizing to fight. Essentially you have to handicap yourself somewhat if you expect someone who knows they are lesser skilled than you to face you in competition, because you are essentially competing with a wide range of other potential people they could fight instead.

I mean, some people will take the challenge head on, but not many, it's why when you're learning something you don't tend to go fight the best person around, it might be an amazing learning experience, but it might also be horribly demoralizing.
