Anything you'd like. You can use fusion, antimatter, or even straight up [url=http://i.imgur.com/58b8zYB.png]alenium[/url]. This is a soft science RP, so I'm not going to enforce you to use scientifically rigid power sources.

Same goes for heat dispersion, although if you're looking for actual advice on the matter: In Mass Effect, heat is stored in lithium capacitors along the inner hull of the ship. Ships regularly stop inside atmospheres and discharge built-up heat by converting it into electrical discharge.  Personally, I prefer to deal with it simply by not having large active crews and using base radiation to shed heat before it starts to interfere with integral components. One other roleplayer I know managed to work out a gas-exchange/filtration system that recycled internal atmosphere into thruster propellant.
