Still dark. No sign of daybreak at all… even after so many hours. Is there such thing as a Sun in this universe? Macey whipped around just in time to catch the colourful sight of Monkey Kid running out of the temple after her. His vibrant attire seemed so out of place in the dark atmosphere, and she wondered just how on earth someone like that ended up here. Well, the same way that I got here, presumably. “There you are! What was it now we were looking for… Yes, hunters.” Macey flashed him a well-rehearsed smile – probably the first time she’d smiled today, but fell a little short of looking completely genuine. “There’s one of them in particular I think you’ll get along with. He’s a lively sort of character, and I think you two will get on like a house on fire.” Not specifying whether Macey really wanted the Monkey Kid to make new friends, or rather she’d just wanted to offload him from her hands as soon as possible, she gave a quick glance around the square – Leo the bird man was still there, along with…. Jenniver, was it? She was definitely one of the Hunters in the church, when they all arrived at the start of the night. They were in conversation with an important looking sort, and Macey couldn’t tell whether he was a villager or not. And here’s me thinking that the Priest was the one who held the most power around here… I really should learn some patience. “Well. The one I’m thinking of isn’t here at the moment.” Macey continued, racking her brain for the name of the hunter Jenniver was in conversation with. “Well, I suppose those two out there aren’t half bad. The bird man out there, I think you’ll find quite inter – Hey, Tatsumi!” He was pretty much being dragged along by a girl around half his height, and at the same time he looked deep in thought. “Well, no. We aren’t friends,” She said, addressing the girl first. For a moment, her eyes were locked with the girl’s in a sea of violet. “But we do know of each other. Tatsumi, Monkey boy. Monkey boy, Tatsumi. And hello there, Maribel. Have you recently been adopted by our enthusiastic hunter here? You've got your hands together like father and daughter!” Macey carefully studied the girl’s appearance, unsure whether to prod her with more questions. Then she remembered her decision to take a slower pace whilst investigating this city, then turned to Tatsumi. “I’m Macey James. I’ve lost my cool a few times tonight already, but at least there’s a silver lining in it all. Best not to get so hung up on the past, since it’s only the future that matters. Not that there seems to be much of a future here – but still, we’ll create one if we have to.” Just at that moment, Jenniver walked over to the four of them with an elegant air about her – and a strange dialect to match. “A… job?” Macey gave the Mayor a hard stare to decide whether he could be trusted or not. The answer was ‘no’, but this seemed like the perfect opportunity to go outside the walls. She’d rather not go with such a large group of people who were essentially strangers, but there was safety in numbers. “We don’t even have money to buy a meal right now, so we should probably take this up. Who knows? Maybe we’ll hunt a giant chicken that we can put on a spit roast later.” Ah, that white haired brute has arrived too Macey noted, remembering the fist fighter from the earlier scrawl. She had no idea that he had gone on a small “adventure” with the hooded fighter, so his next words were a complete shock. Not quite as shocking as seeing a half-naked villager wailing obscenities while running out of the inn, and the fox woman emerging from the inn’s entrance not a heartbeat later. Macey only prayed that she would never have to learn of whatever happened inside that house, and vowed never to enter the inn during her stay here.
