I would say that there has been systematic oppression of LGBT fairly recently, but that is improving rather quickly. Even with that in mind, it is nothing like what used to exist in the past. There are still problems when it comes to racism/sexism etc, but most of it comes from the fact that most of this social development happened over the course of the last century. Second wave feminism, the civil rights movement, the gay rights movement, that all happened within the lifetimes of a lot of people. There is baggage that only time can cure, and both radical feminism and the mens rights movement are only pealing scabs to feel edgy. If you want to face the problems of our generation, the real meaningful issues that will effect us long term, you gotta look at economics. That's where our demons are.
