This is probably going to be changed a bit before anything is actually made of it (because I'm writing this while in a state of semi-exhaustion), but I recently got this idea and am wondering where I can go with it. Ideas and/or interest are appreciated!
The carnival is an interesting place. The lights twinkle in the night, with music playing in the background like some sort of fairy tale and a vast array of colors and shapes arranged and moving like some kind of odd dream. It's a magical place in itself; one where people can forget their troubles on the fun, whirling rides or enjoy tests of skill and tactical execution with the games, even receiving some sort of prize for their efforts if they happen to be fortunate enough. It's a place where one can spend an exciting evening and find out what kind of luck they really have. Maybe this is where you'll find your luck, as well. Or at least borrow some. Whatever it was that brought you here - a troubled past, an sudden misfortune of any size, or even a planned night of mirth with friends, you're here now. And by the time the sun comes up, everyone will be going home except for you. As long as you're here, you might as well make the best of it. Unfortunately for you, however, this carnival isn't exactly normal. If you want to make it to the next night, you'll have to be careful not to fall for any of the odd supernatural traps. Anything could lead to your downfall, from certain suspicious performers to even rides that seem to defy most sane explanations. This place is in what is supposed to be the middle of nowhere, after all, and it has to run on something.
"Why are you here? It's because you're unfortunate! Don't worry, this is a pretty nice place most of the time, and we take in all sorts of people. From misfortune-bound drifters to runaways and even just lost persons. I'm afraid that you won't be able to leave for the time being, though. I'm sorry! For now, though, I suggest that you try to get a contract with the current owner of this place. He's right in the tent at the center. Meet him after the midnight performance, and I can guarantee you a good chance! Good luck! Maybe we'll see each other again."

I'm not certain if I want the joining characters to be normal and just trying to figure out how this "fairy world" carnival operates or if I want them to be gifted individuals who have to use heir unique abilities to take on the darker world lurking beneath the cover of this distracting place. Please feel free to make suggestions!
