Name: Alexandra (Alex) Denali Age: 22 Gender: Female Appearance: Alex was born willowy, but a dancer’s dedication has made her five-foot-six frame a little more solid. She’s a third-generation American from a melting-pot of a family, but her Indo-African roots show in her loose brown curls and skin that looks half a shade too dark for the freckles smattered across her nose. She has a cluster of flowers tattooed on her right shoulder, a product both of her love of pretty things and her curiosity about the sting of a tattooist’s needle (it was a thrill, but not one she’s likely to repeat). She likes flowy garments—loose tunics; lacy dresses; skirts that swish—but compromises for practicality when on assignment. A few layered tank tops, a cluster of necklaces, and a myriad collection of jackets and cardigans make up her primary Guardian uniform. Personality: She’s very physical, but not very violent. Alex likes tactile things: the press of a kiss, the taste of coffee, the feel of silk on her skin. Given the choice, she would go everywhere barefoot. When it comes to being in the field, she’s good at rolling with the punches, but when it comes to dealing with people, she’s on the sensitive side—she tries to hide it, but her feelings are easily hurt, and it’s hard for her to let go of something once it’s said or done. Motive: Alex’s last relationship was physical...and violent. She did get out eventually, but it left her feeling uncomfortably powerless. Her choice to volunteer was made in a particularly desperate moment; later, she was ashamed to be doing something so noble for so selfish a reason, but couldn’t bring herself to withdraw. Ability: Why fix what’s not broken? The government researchers seem to agree, because they didn’t give Alex powers so much as build on ones she already had: stamina and strength. These enhancements are fairly passive, as superpowers go, but they make her a great partner: it takes her a long time to get tired, which means she can support someone else on the team who’s worn out or injured, and she can take a beating, which means she can draw fire when necessary, whether as a distraction or to provide temporary relief. The flip side of this is that these abilities are bolstered by adrenaline, which means that it’s easy for Alex to overextend herself in a fight and not realize it until after the fighting’s done, at which point, the pain or exhaustion can be downright debilitating. Team: TBA Extras: Alex is friendly and easy to get along with, so she has plenty of acquaintances, but she only has one best friend: Jericho, with whom she keeps in constant touch (and who is not entirely thrilled with her decision to become a Guardian).
