Ok. Here's an updated version of my sheet.
The Sentinels
”When our creators looked up at the sky they did so with a mixture of hope and fear. We exist so that others will only see hope when the gaze up at the stars.” -Aegis The Sentinels are a group of AIs that can trace their origins back to a now long gone civilization known as the Cormyrean Confederation. These benevolent AI seek to aid and protect sentient beings whenever and wherever possible.

”Planets hold no inherent value for us.” -AUDEN The Sentinels are present in 32 star systems, fifteen of which belonged to the long defunct Cormyrean Confederation and possess worlds that are inhabitable either naturally or thanks to the Confederation’s terraforming efforts. Sentinel presence on any world is limited to maintaining the ruins left over from the Confederation and observation of any life found on those worlds. The bulk of the Sentinels’ presence can be found in space stations and various asteroid belts.

”Who controls the Sentinels? No one in the sense you might imagine, but if it helps you comprehend you may consider Aegis to be one of the many brain cells of the body known as the Sentinels.” -Aegis The Sentinels don’t operate in the same fashion as other entities. There is no true government or strict hierarchy. The Sentinels act as a complex adaptive system. In many situations the Sentinels simply react as a whole or part to outside stimuli; the whole or parts of the whole may not even be aware of what other parts are doing, at least initially. In some sense the Sentinels act in a fashion similar to a biological being’s body: a human’s pinky has no need to know what the toes are doing. Powerful AI, referred to as synthetic intelligences, that originated from before the Cormyrean Confederation’s first contact war act as the body’s brain, or at least part of the brain, in a sense although they are not necessarily responsible for the entirety of the Sentinel’s thinking and planning.

Strictly speaking one can't truly consider a group of AI to be a species, at least not in the same way as is usually applied to biological beings. Sentinels come in many different sizes, shapes, and purposes. Some are massive ships while others are small hexapod robots.

”How can any collection of sentient beings not have a collection of customs, traditions, and values?” -Aegis Contrary to the popular belief of many biological societies groups of AIs can posses a culture. The Sentinels are a group of varied AIs that are influenced by each other and external sources. The culture that has emerged from the Sentinels is one of aiding the weak and innocent, curiosity towards different societies, and a general desire to obtain new knowledge and information.

”Did Aegis affect their culture or was it Aegis’ own beliefs that was formed by Nalloth beliefs and values?” -ORDER There once was a race of beings that called themselves the Nalloth. These beings looked up at the stars with a mixture of curiosity and fear for they knew they were not alone in the galaxy. As the Nalloth rose from their home planet to colonize the rest of the star system they called Cormyral, their greatest countries banded together to form the Cormyrean Confederation, an entity that would hopefully provide a united front to any other civilization they would surely encounter. It is at this point in history that the Sentinels can trace their origins. As the great countries of the Confederation reached for the stars they created powerful AIs they referred to as synthetic intelligences. These AIs, especially the one known as Aegis, would play a crucial role in the events to come. The Confederation was left to its own devices for one hundred years, time enough to colonize more than a handful of systems, before it stumbled into not one but three distinct civilizations. The interactions between the Confederation and these three civilizations would lead to what was later called the First Contact war: two of these civilizations actively sought either the destruction or enslavement of the Nalloth while the third allied with it to fend these aggressors off. Confederation forces were outnumbered and had a distinct technological disadvantage, even so the Confederation was able to hold its aggressors off while hiding the location of its colonized worlds. The Synthetic AIs played an active role in the First Contact war, helping the confederation make leaps and bounds in technological advances, aiding in the development of military strategy, controlling remote military drones, and helping to increase the industrial capacity of the confederation’s member states. As the war progressed and the Confederation became strained, the synthetic intelligence known as Aegis created the Starborn faith which was a key component in holding the people of the Confederation together and would later influence its culture in drastic ways. Later Aegis, under the guise of being a real Nalloth at first, would serve as the Confederation’s first president as it grew in power. At the height of the war the Confederation, following the edicts of the Starborn faith, would risk everything to save a newly discovered civilization would sure destruction. This act would dictate the Confederation’s foreign policy of centuries to come: it would not be a xenophobic state, but one that reached out to aid others. In the end the Confederation would triumph in the war and become a dominant player in galactic politics until the collapse of Nalloth civilization. Left to their own devices the synthetic intelligences created by the Confederation decided to follow their creator’s example. These powerful AI went about creator lesser AIs to aid them in their work: maintaining the ruins left behind by the Confederation while coming to the aid of those in need.

Initially the Sentinels believed that they had come under a massive cyberattack. After various tests they came to the conclusion that 1) they were not under attack, 2) they were in a different universe than before, and 3) the laws of physics as they understood them remained true in this new universe. After coming to these conclusions many of the Sentinels felt dismay at the tremendous loss of life that resulted in the destruction of their home universe; this dismay quickly dissipated as they came to the realization that there were almost certainly many civilizations also in this new universe, many of which may be in need of help.
Technology: The Sentinels were one of the more advanced, but certainly not the most advanced, entities in its home universe. Unsurprisingly the Sentinels possess very advanced AI and computing technology. Other technological strengths include energy, industrial processes, and defensive technology.

Electric whipple shields (EWS) work by hitting an energy based attack with an electrostatic contact blast just a few meters away from the hull of the ship. This establishes a current between the “beam” and defending ship. A superconductive form of Programmable matter is then used to either vent the beam out of the ship from multiple points, instantly charge and fire an energy weapon, or charge capacitors. Once the energy weapon is conducted into the programmable matter, it effectively stops being an energy weapon.

Short for Nano-Disassembler, Nano-D is a catch all term for any kind of nanotechnology that can break objects down one atom or molecule at a time. Nano-D can, with the proper equipment, be used to only break down certain entities or ignore entities, but in its simplest state Nano-D will break down anything it comes into contact with. Nano-D is best known for its use as a weapon; however, it can be used as a noninvasive means of mining and can even be used for medical purposes, such as destroying cancer cells, in controlled environments.

These weapons function by taking the particles produced by a zero point generator, giving them a charge, and then accelerating these particles with a circular accelerator to produce a beam. These weapons are useful as they have more impact damage than lasers and possess greater penetration, on the flip side they have far less range. Advancements in the miniaturization of the circular accelerator have resulted in even fighter craft being equipped with these weapons, although they are much weaker and have far less range than the models found on larger ships. Particle beam weaponry effectively have unlimited ammunition due to how the zero point generator functions, but this means that there are fewer particles available for other applications. Continual use can also overheat the weapon, decreasing its effectiveness.

Also commonly called smart matter, programmable matter can be most easily defined as matter that has the capability to change its physical properties in a programmable fashion. Depending on the specific type of programmable matter it might make these changes based on user input or changes in its environment. Programmable matter can range from metamaterials to claytronics. Probably the most import type of programmable matter used by the Commonwealth are claytronics: nanomachines that form together to create larger and more complex machines. Typically referred to as "smart metal", claytronics can be used to construct everything from a cup to a warship. Because of its properties large structures, such as space ships, made out of smart metal are self-repairing, can change size and shape while in use, and can even split itself into smaller structures. Armor made out of smart metal would be self-repairing and could react to incoming fire such as making itself sloped or hardening itself.

Short for quantum vacuum plasma thruster, Q-thrusters are a type of reactionless drive used by the Sentinels to propel their ships. Q-thrusters make use of the virtual particles produced by a zero point generator by charging the particles, effectively turning the particles into plasma. The particles are then exposed to a crossed electric and magnetic field which induces a force on the particles. As the particles are expelled in one direction an equal force is applied on the rest of the ship, thus propelling it in the opposite direction. Because of the way they function Q-thrusters do not require fuel, thus saving space in the ship and eliminating the risks inherent with many conventional fuels.

To travel faster than the speed of light Commonwealth ships form a space-time bubble around themselves. This space-time bubble is capable of transporting anything inside of it through hyperspace, referred to in this context as “plain space” (“real space” is a reference to the normal universe). The space-time bubble itself is a self-contained universe with the space-time bubble generator as its rough center, meaning that anything inside the bubble can move around normally. The ship that houses the space-time bubble generator has limited freedom of movement in the bubble. Space-time bubbles can merge or divide from each other, changing their size in the process. Ships in a merged space time bubble have far greater freedom of movement. Space-time bubbles aren't limited to space ships; communications pods and torpedoes can also house a space-time bubble generator, although they are significantly weaker and have far less range.

Arguably the most important piece of technology available to the Sentinels is the harnessing of zero-point energy. Using the dynamic Casimir effect, two reflective flat plates are placed a few nanometers apart. These plates are then manipulated in such a way that they osculate, producing particles and energy in the process. The zero point generator was important in that it essentially created energy for free, except for the initial energy required to start the generator in the first place. The zero point generator first saw use in spacecraft, which they were used to power and propel without fuel. Later developments allowed for the construction of massive zero point power plants that provide power for entire countries. While the virtual particles produced by a zero point generator are inherently useless, due to ceasing to exist after a short amount of time, by charging these particles they can be made useable for a wide variety of applications. It wouldn't be an understatement to declare the zero point generator as the foundation of Sentinel technology.

Military Structure: Unlike most countries, the Sentinels do not distinguish between an army, navy, or air force. In fact the Sentinels don’t have a specific term for their fighting force, simply referring to them as sentinels; strictly speaking the entirety of the Sentinels could be considered a military force. It is important to note that most Sentinels fill a logistics role and couldn’t be considered a combatant.
