+Nation Name: The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (core territories), the British Empire +Leader: King George VI, Prime Minister Winston Churchill +Allegiance: Allied Powers. War began once Nazi Germany invaded Poland, which had a defensive pact with the United Kingdom. Although British opinion was against war, once the danger presented by Germany became clear in the lead up to the conflict, the government took measures to rearm and bolster the French. These ultimately succeeded in saving the British Isles from invasion, but could not save any of Britain's continental allies. +Government: Unitary Parliamentary Constitutional Monarchy (UK), Colonial Empire +Military: The British military is large and diverse, consisting primarily of native British troops and Indians. Commonwealth forces are under overall British command and play an important role. The Royal Navy is the largest in the world, consisting of many battleships, frigates, and a number of aircraft carriers, amongst other vessels. This force is scattered around the globe, with largest forces present in the North Atlantic and to a lesser extent in South East Asia. The United Kingdom and its Empire wields a potent airforce, swelled in size and power with the advent of mass conscription and 'total war' production across both the British Isles and the Imperial holdings. The Commonwealth has assisted the British here also - Canada alone has contributed over 30 squadrons of aircraft. Most of the aircraft used are somewhat outdated compared to the other powers of the time, but more advanced models such as the Spitfire and Hurricane, as well as Lancaster Bombers, are replacing the older aeroplanes. The British army is neither the largest nor the most well-equipped force in the world, but stands among the greatest nonetheless. Since the evacuation at Dunkirk, the United Kingdom's army has grown exponentially with conscription, and has been locked in conflict with the Italians in North Africa since the Fall of France. Although British soldiers make up a large part of the Army, Britain draws much of its force from its colonies, particularly India (34 infantry divisions, for example). Its tanks are capable and a force to be reckoned with, but are by no means as technologically advanced as its German and American counterparts, for example. Overall, Britain's strengths lie in the Royal Navy and the vast resources and manpower it can draw from its Dominions and the Empire. Its weaknesses come from its inability to fight on all fronts and protect the entire Empire at once, and its dependence on the United States for supplies and loans. +Current Deployment of Forces: Scattered across the globe. Significant concentration of forces in North Africa, the British Isles, and India. Limited forces in Sub-Saharan Africa and South-East Asia. Aircraft concentrated in Europe. Please regard these also as British territories Also, I have assented to the alternative Dominion of Newfoundland being RPed, so include Newfoundland as a separate nation but still as a Dominion of the British Commonwealth.
