A few short branches snagged at her clothes here and there, and the slight stinging she felt on her legs warned her of sharper growth below. While running under the shade was cooler than direct sunlight, Ailís’ body glimmered from a sheet of warm moisture. The air she breathed was fire in her throat, and the groaning ache in her legs protested each step she took. It wasn’t long until she found herself leaning against a tree, trying to pull together any energy she had left. Checking her watch only made her stomach drop; indeed, there were only a few minutes left until the hour was up. She wouldn’t make it. The sound of rustling leaves from nearby made Ailís stiffen, instinctively causing her to reach out with her mind. These I-men were everywhere, and their creepiness never ceased to give Ailís the willies. To the young girl’s surprise, a horse stepped into her line of sight and bowed. Between its teeth held tightly...a pen! It’s a student, Ailís thought, almost laughing at herself in a wave of exhaustion and delirium. “I...You don’t have to,” Ailís laughed, thinking of how strange the situation would look to her parents. Ailís sensed the persistence and comfort radiating from the majestic creature, and she couldn’t help but sling herself over the top of it. “I really do appreciate this. I owe you, truly,” she assured the horse, holding on tightly, unsure of how riding quite worked. Her notebook was held tightly between her and the horse, and her pen was still wedged inside of her shoe. As they took off, Ailís squeezed tighter, her body melting into the wind with the horse. By the time they reached the dock, with still minutes to spare, Ailís felt like so much had happened. It was true, her life was never extraordinary, but the amount of firsts in just the hour had her head spinning. Nearly falling off the horse, Ailís patted its back. “You are a life saver! I am entirely indebted to you!” With what may have been tears in her eyes, the blonde hypnokinetic quickly fled to her ship, the one with her elf standing in front. There was another standing beside her home elf, but she said nothing except pull out her pen and show her wrist watch to the elf. As she hurried onto the ship, she finally pulled out her notebook from her shirt and scribbled a quick note.
