Shrug. Magic aliums, man. I just imagine H.G. Welles Martians invading as far as this goes. I did ask a while ago about Lovecraftian influence, and aliens are certainly Lovecraftian. But if aliens are a no-go, extradimensional threats are most definitely a thing.

Not going to quote the timeframe thing again, but you're about four-hundred years too late for the medieval period. In any case, I have a cast of very western-themed characters (save for Titus and the cyborgs) who stand as references to western fiction. Doctor Weiss and his creations have the most anime influence, if you will, mostly because he's completely off his nut.
