"I don't know, maybe three? I'm not a woodsman. If you are at the camp already then head directly between the set of brambles to the north, behind that is a freshly cut trail through the foliage, we will meet you on it."

David couldn't help but smirk at what Nathan said, something about was just funny. Not a woodsman he laughed out loud. He got some strange looks for that one but he pulled himself together and started to jog towards the brambles mentioned by his stressed companion.

"Copy that Nathan I'm headed in your direction, over and out."

It was a long, hard trod through the jungle, between having to carry Javier, a machete, and a hunting rifle Nathan was rather exhausted by the time David came into view. Javier was faring better with some light painkillers in him, but even with the splints and walking stick his leg would need some extra work.

"*Mutter* Oh thank Christ */Mutter* David? That you?"

It was hard for David to focus on his task of finding and helping Nathan because he could barely contain himself when it came to all of the plants and animals he was seeing. It was such a magnificent sight he thought, to be on an alien world that was full of life.

He finally came upon something that resembled one man helping another in the distance. "*Mutter* Oh thank Christ */Mutter* David? That you?" Nathan's voice at last he thought.

He held up his hand in a sign of greeting. "Well hello Mr. Wells, care for some assistance?"

"Yes, very much so."

Nathan half helped, half hoisted Javier over to David before nearly collapsing on the small path.

*Huff* "You know-" *Huff* "When I took this job I didn't-" *Huff* "I didn't realize how different it would be from working on a space station."

After taking the minute to catch his breath Nathan took Javiers' other shoulder and the trio began back to the camp, sun nearing the horizon.

On their way back to camp, they nearly tired themselves out. When they finally reached camp, Nathan looked after Javier while David was setting up a tent with radio equipment. It was slightly better than the past one. Contact was unsuccessful. The ship had reestablished orbit in case of emergency, but radio transmission was scrambled do to the fact that the ship was on the other side of the planet. It would take another hour or so to reestablish contact.

Gingerly helping Javier into one of the cots that had been setup, Nathan mumbled to David about taking the first watch before leaning heavily on the barricade. While not a stranger to long days or hard work this jungle planets had proved even more of a hindrance than expected, and Nathan was tired from the constant physical strain.

"We are fortunate to be on a planet with no major carnivores. Least none that we've found so far." Muttered David to Nathan and the other guy as they were setting up camp in the dimly lit jungle which was alive with the chorus of dusk. How beautiful David thought.

Once they were done David agreed to take the first watch due to the both of them being pretty exhausted do to the days events. David didn't mind in the slightest, he barely slept anyways as he preferred to be awake.

Nathan was asleep almost instantly after taking his gear off, leaving both the machete and the hunting rifle close at hand. He doesn't look to bothered by sleeping on a jungle cot, in fact he is rather heavily asleep.

A couple hours passed without incident and the night air was calm, with a slight cold breeze coming from the west that felt really good on David's body. His comrades were sound asleep so there wasn't much to do except tend to the small fire and keep a look out for anything potentially dangerous.

Suddenly there was a noise in the forest much like a twig snapping, however David knew what it sounded like when you stepped on a twig and it was nothing special. He got up on his feet, for what that sounded like was a tree falling over. David then heard an eery wail, drawn out to sound...unnatural.

Needless to stay, he went and shook Nathan, trying to wake him, for whatever was out there sounded too close.

Nathan spasmed awake, eyes darting wildly before focusing on David. For a moment Nathan stared at David, holding his hunting rifle confusedly.

Adverse medical training managed to overcome the sleep in Nathans brain, "Yes? What do you need?"

"Shhh. Keep your voice down.." David muttered roughly. "Don't you hear the noise? For the first time in a long time, I'm actually quite scared."

The wailing came again and then everything turned to silence. Was it a minute that past or two? David could not tell and he was about to tell Nathan something when in the distance, another wail was heard..

Before the wail even had time to finish Nathan had twisted from Davids' grip, leveled the hunting rifle, and was searching for the source through the scope, forgetting for the third time that this was a jungle planet.

Keeping his voice barely above a whisper Nathan half turned to David. "I can't see anything, and our soldier boy is sedated. A shot of adrenaline could fix that but he really shouldn't move. What do we do?"

the squadron unanimously agreed it is some sort of a creature. They took defensive measures IMMEDIATELY the grabbed Javier and put him in a safe place and camouflaged him the best they could. They also fashioned various basic weapons,and grabbed what they were supplied with to defend themselves, for they knew the possibly had to fight against an unknown enemy...
It never showed itself. all that was left when the explorers wandered the area was the bloodied remains of a giant herbivore ( which looked very much like a reptile.) as they ran back to the make-shift camp,Nathan said to Dave: "If this thing was able to kill that, then we are most likely screwed." Dave replied with: "I honestly think this is more likely a pack of smaller animals than a large predator,based on sound."
Either way, the men knew at some point,all hell could possibly to break loose...

"Keep your guard up Nathan, we don't know whats out there." David said as he was crouched down to the smoldering embers of the fire.

"I think our best course of action is to stay here until morning. I've worked with pack hunters before and it seems these only come out at night so this is their domain now and we are trespassing."

David began to wonder if anything the report said on this planet was true as there was nothing about this unless it was deemed not a threat which he doubted.

For a long moment Nathan remained silent starring at the part of the wall being scratch. Daring to divide his attention he whispered to David, "Behind the lean-to, in one of the crates, we have a Light machine-gun or three. Do me the great personal favor of getting one ready. Grab one of the machetes for yourself while you are at it."

Nathan had worked as a security officer before becoming a doctor of sorts, while he was grateful for the weapon knowledge that afforded him it had never once talked about or even hinted at how to deal with alien fauna of any kind, let alone whatever this monster might turn out being. Fortunately bullets tended to kill things, Nathan waited for a target, eye to the scope.

David nodded at Nathan before proceeding to do as he said. He grabbed the light machine gun with shaky hands as well as the machete which he put at his waste.

David didn't really have any experience with weapons whatsoever. He was more of a pacifist but in this situation he would rather not die on an alien world to whatever was out there. He moved behind Nathan and waited.

Then, a strange creature poked his head over the wall. Nathan and David aimed together at it.
The creature appeared to be some kind of a mammal. It didn't look to far from a cat. but it had what looked like a primate body.

"Holy shit man, we blew its head off!" David said excitedly. His adrenalin was pumping but he was visibility shaken all the same, never before had he killed an animal only plants. It was a very different feeling and he didn't much care for it.

David then looked at Nathan saying in a very serious tone, "Our gunshots have either done one of two things. One being driving them off because they've probably never heard the noise before or more will come to investigate. Either way we need to remain vigilant."

Releasing the breath he didn't realize he was holding Nathan whispered to David without taking his eyes from the scope, "You are the Zoologist David, I just send things to death or save them from it."

Unlike David, Nathan was calm, adrenaline kept in check through steady breathing and focus. He worked the bolt on the hunting rifle, chambering the next round in preparation of additional cougar-gorilla monster things.
