”I’m not asking you to do anything except be completely honest for once and admit to my face that you don’t trust me,” Delilah’s usually bubbly voice burned with anger at his insolence. She always hated the way he skirted around her questions. “You don’t want me to be completely honest—“ he began as she turned her back to him and sat at the edge of the bed. Instead of finishing the thought, he just let out a huff-like sigh. Jar braced himself, this is where she would normal shout or swat at him. Instead she just muttered ”I can’t believe this…” before starting to shiver. Jareth notice the quivering in her shoulders and wondered briefly if she was crying. Just as he started to feel like some kind of asshole for causing all this, she looked over her shoulder at him and began a verbal onslaught. She accused him of acting, not meaning anything he said or sang to her, claiming that it was all an act to get with other girls. Jar ground his teeth hard, it was his turn to lash out in anger. His voice started out soft and calm, he even reached to caress her cheek. “No, I meant every word…” he began and confusion swept into her eyes. “Because, with you, I can’t seem to escape this delusion of our happily ever after. Somehow your looks just make me forget what a crazy, hateful bitch you can be.” The name calling fell harsh and bitter on his lips. Delilah flinched from his touch and spun to grip his arm tight. ”Well, you know what, JarBear – Go fuck with someone else’s feelings, because I refuse to go down the same road again.” she said in a hiss as she got up from the bed to get dressed. “Same to you, sugar. Today was a mistake.” He spat with equal levels of spite. Jar didn’t hide the fact that he watched her as she dressed, he could be a dick like that, and it was probably the last time he’d get to see her naked. Maybe… After Delilah stormed out of the room – and the boys condo – Jar sat by himself in silence. As soon as she was gone, his anger waned and was replaced by a cloud of sadness. She might have said some hateful things, but he felt that he deserved it all, as untrue as some of it was. Delilah was the only girl he was ever faithfully committed to, despite the toxicity of their relationship, and she knew that. It was a low blow to accuse him of trying to use her to get other girls. It had gotten to be quite late, and he’d had an awful day, so Jar took the easiest route to sleep he could think of. Jareth found the sleeping pills he had taken from Adelisa’s room and popped enough of them to silence his thoughts without also silencing his heartbeat, and passed out in the huge King-sized bed. ~~~ The next morning ~~~ Jareth awoke to bright sunlight streaming into his room. His head screamed from an unhealthy half-night of sleep, drug use, and lack of caffeine. Begrudgingly, Jar cast aside the sheets and sat up, the motion causing his head to swim all the more. The condo was surprisingly silent as Jareth wandered into the kitchen to make a pot of pitch-black coffee. He wondered where the boys were, deciding that he’d rather spend the day with them than wallowing in thinking about her. That’s what this vacation was supposed to be, right? He pulled our his phone and sent a text Grant and Hunter. “I need an escape from reality. Who wants to try surfing?” the text read, he even included a smiling emoji, a mask to hide the pain he was feeling.
