She has an imperfect, averagely proportioned face, a modest pair of breasts, and an averagely slender and fit body type. While she is indeed attractive, she is in a normal, everyday human sense and not an exaggerated anime sense. Off hero duty, you'd hardly give her a second glance if you passed her on the street, but that's part of what gives her her charm. Her above-average (for American white females) height of 5'9" and her long, flowing black hair are her two outstanding physical traits. Her skin is a fair tan, and has the occasional blemish here and there. Her soft blue eyes compliment the denim jackets she typically wears. Her typical, every day outfits are just as unassuming as her physique, primarily composed of denim, a tank top, and some form of casual bottom ranging from blue jeans to a knee-length skirt depending on what she's feeling. She keeps herself in good health and hygiene, taking care to maintain her cosmetic beauty in any means that doesn't take a lot of her time. Personality: Sofia is a sly and intelligent individual that, due to her upbringing, is also frequently blunt and free-speaking. She is a very good filter for herself, but her standards for engaging said filter are much more relaxed than most people's. She has fun with her own life choices, and isn't afraid to tell people what she thinks about theirs. Her primary negative emotion is not anger or sadness, but bitterness. She loves a good justice serving but also a good laugh, and can out-drink pretty much anybody. Regarding heroism, she is "totally down with whatever", often viewing the assignments as a double bonus of having fun and helping people. When she had heroism thrust upon her, she eventually concluded after much deliberation that it "might be a cool side gig". Short Biography: Sofia grew up in the lower-income part of Claychester, leading a fairly normal life. Being in the lower-class part of town, she learned street smarts concurrently with book smarts. When she was seventeen, a chemical company with a lab near where she lived began a series of chemical experiments that through human error leaked in large quantities to the local tap water. The effects on those who ingested the substance were widely varied, ranging from nothing at all to almost instant death. The water was quickly decontaminated, but not before Sofia ingested some of the contaminated water at one of her work shifts. When she woke up the next morning she discovered her bedroom lit up with brilliant light, and discovered that it was emanating from her. After having a panic attack for a few minutes, she figured out how to quell the light. Neglecting to tell her parents for fear that they would worry, she soon left for New Skywell to begin a life on her own. For the next six years, she came to grips with her newfound abilities and began to use them for good, because "they're not doing much good just lowering my electric bill." She is currently a well-known heroine in New Skywell (much to her chagrin). Powers, Skills & Equipment: Scientists refer to Sofia's genetic mutation as the Hyperion Strand, while Sofia refers to it as that thing she sometimes does. What it is is heliokinesis, or solar manipulation. Sofia has control over the forces of the Sun, and can manifest them in various forms. She can channel solar energy into solar flames, constructs (including on herself, e.g. wings made of solar energy), powerful sun rays and light in general, and more. This power's problem isn't typically having enough power, but channeling the power's potential into an attack that won't destroy half the city. In Sofia's hands this power is a natural fit for doing good, but were she turned evil it would become extremely dangerous. In Sofia's ideal world, she'd never have to "dress up" to be Corona, and she frequently doesn't when working day to day. However, when the public won't let you rest until you have an outfit, and even the police department asks you to get one, you get one for the sake of your own sanity. Thus, Sofia possesses a super suit (of sorts) that nerds who update superhero wikis call the Apollo Armor. A largely form-fitting suit, the Apollo Armor (pictured at link) is constructed of composites with the goal of lightness over protection. The result is a comfortable, breathable suit that provides zero movement restriction or fatigue from use. The composites provide the body with basic protection from most blunt strikes and bullet resistance from up to 9mm rounds as used by most armed ne'er-do-wells in the city. Its only weak points are two slats in the back that allow for Sofia to protude solar wings through, as she typically does when in the suit. The suit is all gold-colored, and has a radiant shine all over. While it was built with the helmet pictured, Sofia almost never wears it, preferring instead to wear a huge and elaborate gold (not just gold-colored, in this case) winged headdress (looks something like a bigger version of this) that instantly identifies her as the solar heroine. Although it seems odd that the girl who would prefer to never be noticed chooses an elaborate headdress, Sofia figures if she must have a suit, she might as well go big or go home. Weaknesses: While Sofia's abilities are very effective against darkness and darkness manipulators, her power level is significantly dependent on the time of day. She is at full strength any time the sun is above the horizon, but her power level is significantly weakened at night for obvious reasons. In addition, a darkness or gravity user strong enough to use black holes could pose a very serious threat to her. In addition, she retains fire's traditional weakness to water, as water and other liquids refract light. As a result, her power is also weakened in a rainstorm, and is the stem of her hatred of all precipitation.
Sofia was born to parents Dave and Candace. Raised in the inner city, lower class part of Claychester, she was learning the ways of the street when not in school being quickly recognized as a bright students. She learned to hang with the big boys and hold her own in a gang attack while she learned trigonometry. She worked an entry level job as soon as she was of working age, earning money for herself and helping out with family expenses. Unlike many heroes, her upbringing was not fraught with tragedy, and her parents and one older brother happily watched as she graduated high school. Only a few weeks had passed since graduation when the nearby chemical plant had a large-scale chemical spill. It was heavily muffled in the media initially, but quickly came to limelight as the tap water in Sofia's district and the surrounding area became contaminated. Disease and death reports began to come in, and the media exploded. Sofia's father became very sick from the water, but recovered. Her mother was unaffected and her brother was long gone to college in Grimmarch. Sofia was also affected, with the contaminated water entering her system causing a chain of reactions and a very specific set of genes to mutate and become Sofia's "Hyperion Strand" (named retroactively by New Skywell scientists) metagene. She began to notice its effects, like when she woke up to find her bedroom bathed in brilliant light far brighter than anything naturally coming in from her single window, but kept them hidden from her parents to keep them from worrying. It wasn't too hard to keep them in the dark, because barely days after she was contaminated was her planned move-out date. Before she left, she and her parents each received checks from the chemical company as an apology and to cover any potential medical expenses. She planned to use the money for its intended purpose if the symptoms kept worsening, but by the time was settled into her apartment in New Skywell she had enough of a tenuous grasp of controlling them that she decided to bank the money and see how these symptoms developed. After a few weeks of drastically reducing her electric bill by lighting up the place herself, Sofia decided to further explore what she could do, and for the next few months she experimented and trained her newfound abilities. She attempted to be discreet about it, but it's hard when your abilities are all very...bright. High noon became her favorite time of day, and she became more and more thankful that she slept through the night. Eventually, she began searching for people that she could help with her abilities. Quickly she became a vigilante crime hunter in her spare time, desiring no recognition but getting all of it. Three years after she moved to New Skywell, she was one of the city's most popular protectors, and a celebrity of sorts. Ironically the one bathed in sun rays wanted to remain in the shadows. And yet, when asked by a news reporter what her superhero identity was, she had an answer ready. Why? "If somebody else names me, I know it'll suck." So she has been known as Corona ever since, little by little coming to accept the celebrity superhero lifestyle. Fortunately, despite all of her recognition, she still appears normal enough that when she is doing normal things nobody notices her as more than just another passerby, and her favorite thing to do is walk through the center of the city at high noon and not be noticed by anyone.
Fun Facts: - She'd like to say her favorite brand of potato chip is Sun Chips, but she really prefers the taste of Doritos. - She's technically a lesbian, but romance isn't something she's really interested in. - She likes to watch Jeopardy and other trivia shows and yell the answers at the contestants. - She has had numerous offers from the police to join their ranks, but she thinks being a cop would be too restricting so she has never accepted. - Her preferred snack is chewable Vitamin C tablets, and she always has a bunch of them somewhere on her. She eats them constantly like it's her second job. Quotes: "Tights? Please, that's garbage." "This is real life, not some comic book.
