At first it had started as shouting, verbal abuse spewing forth from liquor loosened lips. They would hide in their room, curled up on their bed and holding hands as their mothers screams and their fathers shouts rang out through the house. Erion would pull Estelle close, emitting calmness and warmth until she fell asleep. When their mother died in a car accident their father turned his wrath on them. At first it was just shouting and yelling, occasionally he would get angry enough to chunk a beer bottle at the wall but never did he lay a hand on them. That is until one night he was especially drunk over having lost his job earlier that day. He had called the twins into the living room, raging at them. It was "all their fault" and they were "freaks of nature that should have never been born". It was nothing they had not heard before, their father's favorite past time was pointing out all their flaws and what made them different. The twins thought it to be another one of his rants and listened quietly. However, when their father didn't get a reaction from them he grabbed Estelle back-handed her across the face. Both of the twins cried out in shock and pain, the slap resonating between them. Before Erion really knew what was going on, rage filled him at the sight of his twin in their fathers grasp. He leaped forward and pulled the girl away, at the same time a bright light filled the room and they heard their father scream. When the spots faded from their sight, they paled upon seeing nothing left of their father but charred remains. Erion didn't mean to use his lightening but he had just been so angry. They stood there still-stocked for a moment before the boy grabbed his sister's hand and tugged them up their shared room. Not needing any words, the twins grabbed their backpacks and began filling them with their meager belongings. Erion stuffed some money he had been earning doing things around the neighborhood and had hid from their father into the sack before slinging the pack over his shoulder. Estelle grabbed her violin that she had bought with her own money and slung the strap over her shoulder with her pack. He grabbed Estelle's hand and tugged his twin downstairs and out the door with their pet wolf Oberon following after them, neither looking back at the corpse of their father. They raced down the street, not stopping until they were several streets away. Estelle leaned against her brother, form trembling slightly. "What are we going to do?" Erion wrapped his arms around her. "I'll figure something out." The girl nodded as they stood there for a few moments. Twinkling lights caught her eye and she headed towards it, tugging her brother behind her. They soon arrived at a carnival and Estelle looked up at her twin with bright eyes. Erion smiled as he withdrew some money from their pack and bought two tickets. Clasping hands, the twins stepped inside, both looking around in awe as neither had ever been to a carnival before.
