A LITTLE HEADS UP, AND I CAN'T STRESS THIS ONE ENOUGH; DON'T SIMPLY SKIM THROUGH THE PARAGRAPHS. TAKE YOUR TIME TO CAREFULLY READ THIS BEFORE EXPRESSING INTEREST. IT MIGHT NOT BE YOUR TYPE OF RP.
~ Black Dawn
It's the year 2016. The United States presidential elections are nearing. Anxiety can be felt in the air as this time things are different. Whoever makes his way into the Oval office is not only going to become president, but may also reshape The United States of America, for better or worse. Following a terrorist attack in last year's Mardi Gras parade by a jihadist group, screenshots began to surf around Reddit showing the two perpetrators discussing the details of their assault. In a public chat no less. After proven to be valid, the fact that there was a terrorist attack planned right under everyone's nose caused an uproar. The Republican party had enough ammo to tear the leading cabinet a new asshole. And that's how the Information Control act came to be. The law, if it was to pass, would regulate and monitor a huge stream of data on the internet and sift potential threats towards U.S interest through an implemented program called "Flashlight". In October 23rd of 2015, after engaging in fierce negotiations with different representatives of the internet, who voiced their protests against the act, a member of the Republican party with the blessing of the President himself, assured that the bill would not come up for a vote during the current term. The news put everyone at ease, but many Internet users warned of upcoming protests should the law come into consideration again. The IC act controversy also was to become the main focus of the 2016 President campaign - Sen. Joseph Johnson of the Democratic party went on to promise the general population that he would make sure the bill would never pass, while his rival, Sen. Richard Conroy declared that he would make sure the bill passes. So far, public support has leaned towards the Democratic party. However... While the public is left to deal with the political shitstorm, a silent war is happening in the background. A clandestine organization with influence around the world known only as The Network has been manipulating important national events to make sure that it would all come to this. From the early 2000s, they've orchestrated seemingly unrelated political assassinations in order to pave a way to their goals; total control. They are indirectly affiliated with the Republican party, since their discrete nature doesn't allow for direct contact. It would also be extremely convenient for them if the Information Control bill passed. That said, there's little to no information about who leads the organization, the number of members or just exactly how vast their influence is. As a matter of fact, there's no government record even hinting about their existence, which implies that they may have already infiltrated crucial U.S assets. Cue Mr. Cheshire, a mysterious and wealthy benefactor who covertly has taken the initiative to oppose The Network. The exact time he entered the stage is unknown, but he has amassed enough information to at least acknowledge The Network's existence. The path he deemed fit to counter such a powerful organization was through keeping a distance. He doesn't employ people, he hires them, refusing to reveal any compromising information. It has been proven time and again that, while very shadowy, The Network does have a system of hierarchy. Mr. Cheshire doesn't. And he takes advantage of that by discarding unnecessary pieces and actively eliminating proof of his existence. So far, there's been no indication that The Network is aware of his existence, but that's most likely due to no course of action being taken as of yet seeing as how Cheshire's remained in the information gathering phase. The mysterious death of Nathan Leighton, an investigative journalist, has piqued the interest of Mr. Cheshire. While to the public eye the murder is simply an accident, Mr. Cheshire, through comparing evidence gathered in the past, has managed to make a connection between the 'accident' and The Network and has also managed to single out a franchise assassin of importance to the organization - a person known only by the name of Adds. The uncovering of such crucial information has led Mr. Cheshire to make a move. His course of action, after years of dormancy, was to hire six elite assassins from around the world and sign a one year contract, which he could renew if he needed their services for another year. Their collective mission; identify and eliminate the assassin known as Adds.
~ Setting
This RP is set in February of 2016, in the near future in New York against the backdrop of the 2016 Presidential campaign. The assassins (you guys) will be accommodated in different hotels so as to remain inconspicuous and will be summoned when needed. There is no major leap in technological advancement, since the world portrayed here is supposed to be similar to ours. There are, however, several advanced tools that you'll carry around in the field. I'll go more into that when the OOC's made. The Assassins will be mostly paired in groups of two and sent in to infiltrate different resorts, strongholds and what not. There will be instances where assassins will be sent in solo.

- Patience. A lot of it. You can have it for free, as long as you keep in mind that this patience can wear thin. - A story-driven tale. Yes, while the plot summary I put on earlier emphasizes greatly on the assassination aspect, you must understand that I'm trying to tell a tale here. It might take a lot of time until things escalate, but when they do..you're gonna love yourself for sticking around. - A very unique approach to the infiltration aspect. It's sort of like a "make your own path" type of thing. I present you with an enemy base, and then I thoroughly describe every area of that base and where all the guards are posted. From then on, it's all in your hands. You can use disguises, you can sneak around, or maybe you can create a strategy with your partner (if you've got one appointed). If an important target is in the area, I will control that target. I will elaborate more on that in the OOC, but you should know that there are also limits to this. -Seasons. This is an idea first introduced to me by a seasoned (see what I did there?) RPer in this site. Although he referred to them as seasons, I'd like to call them 'chapters' since it seems cooler. Apparently, the RP works like this; I start season one (this one), I end season one. I take a one or two weeks hiatus (when actually I'm just recruiting more players for the next season), then jump into season two. This is done like this so that anyone who decides to ditch the RP in between seasons can be easily replaced, and I can find a good excuse for it. This season will last until the in-universe Presidential elections. The team of assassins will also expand between seasons. Now we have six, the next season Mr. Cheshire might recruit two more. - Side-missions. Remember when I said this RP will feature a unique approach to it's infiltration aspect? Well, you better do, cause I REMEMBER explicitly warning you to read this carefully. Side-missions are missions done in PMs. Some can be of importance to the plot, some require a certain number of players, while some serve as prologues to the story missions. Here's a concrete example; say your guy has to get in a hotel, but he doesn't know the layout. There will be a short side-mission where he, or another assassin, will steal the hotel's blueprints before formulating a plan. Doing side-missions might unlock you crucial information early on before anyone else can get their hands on them, and you're urged to not share that information with your fellow assassins. You can choose to not do side-missions, but rejecting certain side-missions will affect your manner of approach. Like, if you were caught on a security camera in a previous mission, then a side-mission will pop up where you have to retrieve the tape. If you decline it, then a Network assassin will find your location and try to kill you, forcing you to relocate. Also, the next missions will be extra difficult, as the enemy will know what you look like. These are just two of a number of near unlimited scenarios that taking or refusing a side-mission may produce. - Not much emphasis on the antagonists. Okay, let me just clarify this. Obviously the antagonists have a role on almost everything in this universe, but this whole tale will be told from the perspective of Mr. Cheshire and the assassins. You will only get to know the bad guys once you're sent to kill them. Rarely, there will be instances where you might have to converse with one of them, but that's it.

- Patience. I'm not gonna create a character of my own in this RP, but I still have to GM it, not to mention I may be caught up in other RPs. Plus, I do have a life, as hard as it may seem to believe. I may be busy dealing with it. - Clean up. By clean up I mean for your characters to clean up. Cleaning up will be a recurring theme in this RP. Basically what you have to do is quickly conceal dead bodies, make sure cameras haven't caught you red handed and being a formidable assassin, generally speaking. One mistake will be forgivable and may actually create a quite interesting situation for your character (see: side-missions), but once it happens a second time, and a third time and a fourth time, it'll begin getting stale. I won't hold your hand. You're gonna have to do everything by yourself. If anything, I'll simply make things more difficult for you. - Not be a dick. Yes, I expect you to not be a dick. Don't insult me. Don't insult other participants. If you're gonna quit, let me know, and while there have the decency to kill off your character. I won't hold it against you if you don't, but it'll surely spare me the bother. If you're gonna go in a trip, let me know. Like, immediately, not after two weeks when the trip's over. By then, your character is probably laying in a ditch with cement blocks on his/her feet. - Pay attention. I said I can't stress this one enough. Pay attention! If you're tired and just came back from work, take a nap and then read my messages. The plot will be heavy on foreshadowing, since mystery is a big part of this RP. So it'll make my experience and your experience way more pleasant if you're in the right state of mind when indulging in this type of stuff. And finally, if you're the type of guy who skips through RPs like a flamboyant Norwegian on top a volcano, don't even bother to join this RP. I'm looking for dedicated people, not those who change minds faster than one can say 'change mind' three times. I understand if you're being overwhelmed by real life, or if you have an emergency, but I'll make sure to stalk your profile and if I see you posting in another RP, I'll make sure I spread the word all around this place. Also, you're dead to me. Oh, and one more thing. This isn't first come, first serve, so if you don't make it in but the guy behind you does, then either your character sheet doesn't match the RP's tone, or his sheet was better. Or both.
